STL fan in MN wrote: 12 May 2025 16:20 pm Nemec is not worth Kyrou. Not anymore anyway. A year or two ago? That’s probably what it would’ve taken to get Nemec. But now he’s 21, was drafted 3 years ago and still trying to stick in the NHL. He has some warts.

I wouldn’t remotely consider trading a 35 goal, 70+ point winger for a maybe with those kinds of warts.

That said, I am interested in Nemec. But it’d have to be a package based on a lesser piece. Like Bolduc or Hofer being the main piece going the other way.

But at the end of the day, we’re talking about a kid that still has a lot of potential but put up only 4 points and was a -10 (on a good team) in 27 games. There’s a real above zero chance he busts. You don’t trade your leading goal scorer for that.
You know I was taken aback when you mentioned Bolduc as a potential trade chip here versus JK. Like whoaaa!

Wondering how many on this board would give up JK over Bolduc for a trade.

Clearly one would have to take a risk on Bolduc versus the known production of JK but even as a big supporter (and gambler) of JK I'd have to think about that.
I wouldn’t want to give up Bolduc either but you have to give to get.

But I think shows how fed up some are with Kyrou that they’d perhaps value a winger that just put up 36 pts over one that’s averaged over 70 the last 4 years. That said, Bolduc has his whole career ahead of him. I personally would be a bit surprised if he consistently hit 70 pt seasons but then again, we didn’t really expect that out of Kyrou either when he was taken in the 2nd round.

It also shows how dramatically the value of players can change, especially young ones. A year ago, Nemec was an unproven but highly touted RD prospect who was recently drafted 2nd overall. And Bolduc had just scored 25 pts in 50 AHL games and then 9 in 25 NHL games to finish out the season. It would’ve taken 5 or so Bolducs to get 1 Nemec a year go.

I suggested Hofer as NJ has Markstrom, pending UFA Allen and an 18 yr old prospect as their goalies. And the Blues had Ellis emerge this season. Again, not a player I’d want to give up but also trying to be reasonable. Not all players can be had for Cole, D’ags and a 3rd after all.
The whole fragmented evaluation of JK on this board produces all kinds of reactions but I was really trying to find out what many might feel about moving Bolduc.

I would absolutely hate to move that kid and I certainly would not do it unless it was for a player at least considered a sure bet no matter where he might have been drafted.

In my mind Bolduc has proved his worth and it is of consequence and his upside is considerable, possible tremendous. I would far prefer to move a prospect or even two to avoid losing what the Blues know they have and could have in Bolduc.

He appears to be the epitome of what you want prospects to become.

Would you do Nemec for one of Bolduc, Neighbours or Snuggerud?

Or more to the point, what would you consider a fair trade to acquire Nemec?
Bolduc, probably. Neighbours, maybe. Really wouldn’t want to. Snuggerud, no. I’d probably try to make Stenberg the main return in a deal for Nemec but I doubt NJ would go for that. Stenberg has potential in the same range of Bolduc and Neighbours but he has more uncertainty simply because he’s younger and farther away from the NHL. That reduces his value compared to the other 2.

I'm actually in the hell no to trading any of them myself unless it's part of a clear upgrade.

I love all these guys but was trying to gauge Nemec's value by how much those familiar with him would give for him.

I don’t know about Nemec because I don’t think anyone will take Nemec for Faulk
I think if Holloway is fully recovered & not a different type player after surgery (that’s the danger of the unknown since no one knows if he had a major hip operation or what).
Anyway this thread mentions Kyrou a lot. After Kyrou buddied up with “Hollywood” on and off the ice, they were practicing with each other before & after hours & Kyrou became a much better player…so I think we should stop the Kyrou trade talk. We saw multiple, fast breakouts between Holloway & Kyrou and that was part of our big winning streak .
Prior to that I was on the trade Kyrou train.

We need to rotate Sunny and Faska if we keep them
both. Schenn needs to be moved down. To the 3rd line

Only Tobasco Flowers in this thread has said Kyrou is worth less than Nemec
And?
Well, if only one person has said something, do you think that is evidence for, or against, "some of you"

seattleblue wrote: 12 May 2025 16:50 pm People are going to have to come to terms with the reality the Blues are going to have to pay a heavy price to get the RHD they very soon need.

They aren't drafting this player. If someone's stance is "well I only want a sure thing," please be very aware that that level of RHD is pretty much automatically worth at least an established scoring winger who is only average defensively. The reason is top RHD is way more valuable than top winger. That's just how it is.
Exactly.

It's all about supply and demand boys:
RHD-men are very difficult to acquire.
Scoring wingers are not.
I mentioned in the Devils thread that I would definitely trade Buchnevich for Nemec.

Ask Bill Guerin if it was worth the risk to trade a proven scoring winger (Fiala) for an unproven RHD (Faber).
Minny also got a 1st rounder.
Obviously, that doesn't mean that Nemec will pan out, but the Blues wing depth is the perfect match with the Devils RHD depth.
I mentioned in the other thread that this is where your pro scouts come in. Did they see Nemec play this year in the minors?
Does he still have top 4 upside or is he a dog?

It would be interesting if Mercer's name would be included in any trade talks with Nemec/Kyrou and the Devils.
He's more of a tweener positionally (RW & Center) and talent wise (probably best suited on 3rd line).
As an aside, isn't Kyrou's NTC kicking in soon?
The primary reason we're bringing Kyrou up is the July 1 date when he gains control. He plays at a position of organizational strength where the Blues have their own 2021 and 2022 first rounders playing, not because he's a "whipping boy" as hockey jedi said

Bolduc does make mistakes, but he has demonstrated the ability to play a tight checking game, play with grit, and is a scorer. He has some championship pedigree with a Memorial Cup to his name. From what I was hearing, Winnipeg fans HATED him (and Neighbors). Bolduc and Neighbors can be absolute burrs in the saddle. (Reminds me a bit of the Kirk Maltby, Kris Draper days with Detroits Cup teams a bit.)

I mean, Keenan took a chance on Pronger when he traded Shanahan for him. Prongs was raw, but had tons of potential. Keenan's tough love - along with being paired with a pro's pro in Al MacInnis, made Pronger a HOFer. But it was a trade that benefitted both teams.

I don't think anyone is particularly saying not to trade him, but Kyrou is a massive over payment, and quite frankly the others might be as well.

If you were to trade Bolduc and as MN suggested Hofer, NJ would have to kick in something as well, and I don't know what else of theirs would fit.

He's in his 3rd professional year, his draft status no longer carries the weight it once did. He saw his games played diminished this season, as well as his ice time. He went from 60 games and 16.9 toi to 27 games and 13.54 toi. That's not a good sign.

Now the light bulb could absolutely just turn on one day and he becomes what his sheet says he should be, but for right now he's in the early stages of suspect territory and you just don't give up major pieces for that.

I’d do this but mostly because I wasn’t a huge fan of the extension in the first place and don’t think Buch will age well. His deal takes him to age 36.

That said, he currently has full trade protection. Would he want to move to Jersey? No idea but the NTC is a big hurdle.

Admittedly I don't know a lot about the kid. But a glimpse at his history shows that he didn't go the major junior route - been in Slovakia / Europe. So his issues could be due to ongoing adaptation to the North American / NHL game, and he'(poop) a plateau for the time being.

Honestly, the way Buchnevich has been reacting to the Game 7 loss ... I can't WAIT to see him on the ice next season. I'll wager he'll have a monster year. At least I hope so. He's been a bit frustrating, I have to admit.

I don't think NJ even considers it anyway but I bet the Buch contract starts looking better the next couple summers.

Not that this means anything, but several Blues players were sitting in the first row behind home plate last week during a day game vs. Pirates. Faulk, Neighbors, Holloway, for sure and I think Bolduc, Broberg, and possibly Leddy were in the same front row. Apparently, Chip and Brad had no idea that they were Blues players, because listening to the game I never heard them say anything about it. But Holloway got up from his seat and walked up to the concourse during an inning, and it certainly didn't look like he was limping. If he was, it certainly was not noticeable. Any way, hopefully that means its good news on "whatever" his injury was, as he quickly became one of my favorites on the team. Anybody else have a Hollywood out there for a 3rd? LOL

Bolduc and this years First for Nemec and a 5th. Steep. Gotta give to get. Play him with Broberg and move Faulk down with Tucker. Trade Leddy and resign Suter. Fixes a lot long term.
