As I replied on other thread I would like to see the young guy play a position. It seems outfield has a future opening (Walker). I don’t know about arm strength. It’s a lot different throwing from catchers position vs outfield position. Just have to see. Regardless he is DH for now.
Indeed, there is the IH angle to this as well. Again, there are lots of pieces, and some need to acquire more pitching, young pitching. Someone will be left without a chair, or be sitting in another team's circle. We shall see....
In this reset, if my model of three years to compete is correct, we cut bait on some young players at the end of year. There’s not a lot to choose from.
As you noted, this all could become a great problem to have if they hit.

Herrera = DH 90% of the PA's
If C. Bloom wants to get creative, then he gives him an OF'ers glove and sends J. Jay to work w/him this offseason.
NOT to become a FT outfielder (unless he really takes to it like D. Murphy did), but to give his new Manager versatility if he needs it.
But right now, he's the 100% right choice to be the FT DH!
The heck w/Bumbles and Norman wasting PA's when you have a hitter like Ivan.
Well if Gorman and Burleson get no PAs what good are they.
I think you answered your own question BDog, "What good are they"?
Gorman needs to be at Memphis to play 3rd base (in case NADO is dealt this yr or in the offseason) and to get his batting stroke back, Burleson needs to be gone as a throw in if/when they make a BIG trade.
Other than being a backup for WillyC and a LHPH'er, Burleson has no spot on this team anymore.
Hererra is the vastly superior DH w/a huge upside.

Yes, Rock, you and I are on the same page as usual. That is why I stared that other thread last night after watching the replay of the game. The lineup has a COMPLETELY different feel with him in the middle of it somewhere. Ivan the terrible is in my lineup daily until he proves he cannot hit. We are not saying he is the next Pujols by any means, but the kid can hit and he is somewhere batting 2-5 in my daily lineup until he cools off and looks bad.

If anyone thinks Hererra should be catching, then they're not paying attention.
The kid can NOT throw!
He plays in the NLC that houses the #1 (Cubs), #2 Brewers and #5 teams who lead MLB in SB's!
They'd run all day against the Cardinals if Ivan's behind the plate (as an aside, Pages is excellent stooping the run, Pozo is league average).
Ivan get's at least 90% of the PA's at DH or Oli needs to be fired even before seasons end.
No one will ever be another Pujols, those are generational talent that come around every fifty years.
But Ivan is a dangerous hitter and he does indeed change the look of the lineup!
Herrera will be like early Pujols -- find him AB's wherever you can until Contreras is gone and then park him at 1B... this is of course assuming the bat continues to play. Nice Discussion.

Then that neans keeping Walker. Could be a monster of Walker hits and Herrera hits.
Since the Cards are deep in Catching prospects moving Herrera to DH probably makes the most sense.
They certainly could/should experiment with him at a different position.
1B could be a fit but unless Contreras is dealt that belongs to him.
You also have Burly or Gorman could be shifted there?
That leaves corner OF as others have suggested.
LF would make more sense.
Noot shift to RF.
Walker should play at least this season.
You always have a stopgap in LF with Donovan who moves around but will be in there every day.
I would have Herrera as a full time DH. As rock said let him take OF reps this offseason with Jon Jay to get a little versatility but hope you never really need to use it.

But if BDWJr gives C. Bloom the money, then I'd love to see a true MOTO hitter at either 3rd base if NADO is dealt or in RF (freeing up Walker to be traded).

In my reset, after this season, we cut young fat; then we add a stud OF- less likely with Herrera and Scott emerging, a stud third baseman, or a leagues level Ace. This happens in the off season. Then we play 2026.

Hitting 2 - 5 is the exact place he should be.
Agreed. What mystifies me is why they let Herrera progress as a catcher in the minors. They find out he can’t throw at the major league level? He should have had multiple minor league seasons in the outfield.

Perhaps, but did he ever really show he might be gonna hit like he has so far this year? Avg to good hitting catchers carry a lot of value... more so than avg to good hitting of's.
