Does Herrera replace Walker 2026.
Good morning.
Reset. Three years. So far got rid of Goldie contract. Need to shuck Mik and Matz. Assess the kids, make cuts.
Now Herrera has the best bat on team. He must play daily. When we cut at end of year, Walker may be in trouble.
Bloom has no love for Gorman and Walker. They are just players to him. No love.
Herrera has a catchers arm although he throws poorly from catcher. He would throw fine as a right fielder:
Do we have a problem, is DH his spot, or is left or right his destination.
Thoughts.

If Herrera is moved to the OF I think LF would be his best position. IF the Cards give up on Walker and IF Herrera is moved to the OF, I think we'd see Herrera in LF and Noot in RF.

I know. Giving up on Walker is tough. But if Herrera must play we need a position.Monsieur De Treville wrote: ↑10 May 2025 10:05 am If Herrera is moved to the OF I think LF would be his best position. Mornin' Bdog. Hererra has not shown me his arm is all that strong... IF he ends up in the OF, I would prefer him in LF. He also hasn't shown he can play the OF. Not saying he cannot, just that we haven't seen him there. That is what the off season and ST are for. I would put Noot in RF under your scenario. Yes, Walker and Gorman need to heat it up this season. I think one of them may be packaged in a trade if someone wants them. JJ is only a year away, assuming he pans out. We seem to have IFers and catchers in the system. Nothing is guaranteed. They certainly have to be patient with young players, but there is that constant interplay between development and losing trade value. JW needs to pick it up somehow this season. He has made great strides on D, but he is back to his old pathetic habits at the plate. Just lost with the occasional good AB to give you hope. But this is baseball and guys turn it around, especially young ones.

Good morning sir. Nice write. If Walker ever gets it, we are starting to fill a potent roster of hitters.bccardsfan wrote: ↑10 May 2025 10:09 am Mornin' Bdog. Walker should be learning to hit in the minors this year. I don't see any path to improvement the way his plate approach is right now.
Maybe Bloom can sprinkle some pixie dust on him.

Yes, and some good players in the minor league pipeline. But pitching is king, and Bloom will have to trade someone to get more pitching. You know as well as I that you have to give up a decent player or two to for pitching. Then said player may blossom elsewhere. We shall see what happens, but we have a LOT of IFers and catchers. Gorman better pick it up....sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑10 May 2025 10:12 amGood morning sir. Nice write. Yes indeed, JW is back into looking completely lost at the plate. Flailing away at low and outside pitches while falling away from the plate. We have seen this movie before. Let's hope he breaks the pattern soon, and yes, AAA is not a bad place to work on things.

So Walker is safer based on fewer outfielders where Gorman is at the mercy of an infield glut of players. And not constant at bats. It’s hard for him to prove his worth sitting on the bench.bccardsfan wrote: ↑10 May 2025 10:21 amYes, and some good players in the minor league pipeline. Re: Does Herrera replace Walker 2026.
I am skeptical of how Herrera would be in OF. A catcher in the OF is not my idea of top shelf defense. I was not a fan of Burly in OF either.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑10 May 2025 10:08 amI know. I like OF that can go get the ball. Cut off gappers holding the batter to single instead of chasing the ball to the wall for automatic double or even a triple. Same on running in on blooper types making diving catches.
Hope he is better but I want to see him get some reps there in spring training and go from there. Otherwise keep him at DH

Re: Does Herrera replace Walker 2026.
Maybe. I am not Bloom. But JJ and Sagesse are waiting in the wings. Of course Nado may be gone by deadline or the off season.... so that frees up one more IF spot. Gorman is a third baseman, so that helps. But Donnie can play there and probably JJ (although he hasn't proven anything yet, not even in AAA). There are lots of moving pieces here and someone has to gamble on the right ones. Why the GM makes big bucks and I sit at a keyboard for free:) JW and Gorman can cement their places if they start to hit, but if both struggle around the Mendoza line all season.....sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑10 May 2025 10:25 amSo Walker is safer based on fewer outfielders where Gorman is at the mercy of an infield glut of players. As I replied on other thread I would like to see the young guy play a position. It seems outfield has a future opening (Walker). I don’t know about arm strength. It’s a lot different throwing from catchers position vs outfield position. Just have to see. Regardless he is DH for now.

Indeed, there is the IH angle to this as well. Again, there are lots of pieces, and some need to acquire more pitching, young pitching. Someone will be left without a chair, or be sitting in another team's circle. We shall see....Jatalk wrote: ↑10 May 2025 10:29 am As I replied on other thread I would like to see the young guy play a position. It seems outfield has a future opening (Walker).
