Edmontons downfall will always be its goaltending.

Calvin Pickard is not likely a goaler who is taking you to the promised land, and Skinner was getting absolutely nuked before he got injured.
If you think Rantanen has been great so far, wait until the conference final if he gets to shoot on one of those Edmonton goalies!
He'll be unstoppable.

Of course Edmonton has to get past Vegas first.
Tall order but whoever knocks Vegas out is my own personal Stanley Cup Champion.
Yeah, every year they lose is a mini celebration along with the Avs and the LA Rams.
I get the Avs and Rams, but why the Knights? Not that I'm a fan of them.

Their salary cap games. Same thing with the Lightning.

^this ... and the fact that the expansion draft was changed to make them competitive immediately.

Don't know how familiar you are with the NHL's salary cap rules, but basically teams are allowed to take players salary off the cap if they are on the "long term injured reserve" (LTIR) list. Then when the playoffs start the salary cap no longer exists. So what several teams have done is claimed high paid players were injured during the regular season so they can stay under the cap. Then as soon as the playoffs start the start players magically heal up & get added back in & now they are actually considerably over the cap for the playoffs.

Wow. I did not know about this. I assume Vegas did this and it was obvious what they were doing?

Wouldn't the downside be that those high paid players haven't played hockey in months? Or is there no actual rule to the length of time they have to be out before they can return?

Thanks for the info.

Jets dominated the Stars last night. They kept pointing out how the Blues made them pay for every puck retrieval and the Stars just didn't play that physical.

To say that the Stars miss Heiskanen is an understatement.
Dallas is skating Harley into the ice. Will he have anything left in the tank if the Stars manage to get by Winnipeg?

Dallas survived Colorado only because of the disparity of special teams.
The Stars have been horrible even strength. They don't have one plus player even though their record is 5-4.
Johnston is -11
Duchene is -8 and has no goals.
They need Robertson to get up to speed because they have surprisingly struggled to score goals.

I still have Edmonton hoisting the Cup next month assuming Ekholm comes back.

It became known as the Mark Stone resurrection.

For 2 seasons straight Mark Stone went on LTIR just before the trade deadline, last year for a lacerated spleen (one of the "just trust us" injuries), which allowed the Knights to make trades that allowed them to go over the salary cap by Mark Stones salary. He then miraculously for the 2nd straight season got perfectly healthy just in time for game 1 of the playoffs.

Now it's just a running joke

Ehhh I think Dallas takes it in 6. Likely split in Dallas, then Dallas takes 5 and 6. They were way too good 5 v5 during the year to be this bad all of a sudden. It'll turn around.

They should.

Back in February I wrote that I didn't even consider the Jets a threat to come out of the west mainly because of center depth and Hellebuyck's recent playoff struggles and overuse during the regular season/4 Nations.

Johnston
Hintz
Duchene

Scheifele
Namestnikov
Lowry

The Stars desperately need Heiskanen back though.

God I hope not. Their fans have become more insufferable than Avs fans. They're actually worse than Toronto.

Thanks for the explanation. That rule seems like a bit of a headscratcher. Injury luck should just be part of the game IMO.
