Nolan Arenado: He's worse than last year. So how we gonna rid ourselves of this plague?

Burleson doesn't play defensively. We have many who can play 1B. The team does not have room for one dimensional players. And his bat lacks power.Shady wrote: ↑08 May 2025 15:53 pm"Burleson will be traded before Arenado". No way. The organization wants to trim salary. Burleson makes peanuts compared to Arenado.RunSup wrote: ↑08 May 2025 15:39 pmArenado gives great defense at a premium position. His hitting has been timely and clutch while not prolific. A hot streak will cure the complaints.
There are other bats in the lineup I'm more concerned about. Especially the replacement, Gorman.
If the Cardinals are in the race at the deadline, Arenado stays until they are out of it. Then see how Bloom constructs the team and handles the off-season.
Prediction: Burleson will be traded before Arenado.
Burleson is gone by the off season. Start getting used to it now.

Hasn't been great. Hasn't been terrible.
On the plus side, his 12 xbh put him at the same pace as his stronger seasons in STL. Everyone knows it's tough to hit to HR in STL in April.
And his D is back to GG caliber. As I've posted 10x today, I want to see the Cards compete and I think they have the talent to do so on the NLC, but they're going to need a 3+ WAR 3rd baseman to do that.
The Blues run awoke the competitive streak in me. I can't handle anymore mediocrity. Must ... win ... N ... L ... C ... !

Neither Arenado or Contreras are legitimate cleanup hitters. Right now, Contreras is a # 5 and Arenado a #6. Check his power numbers. The problem is, the Cardinals don't have a legit #4 hitter in sight.
How would you describe a "cleanup hitter"?
What teams have cleanup hitters to those standards?

Not sure how you force it, care to expand? Giving him away is a mistake.Jatalk wrote: ↑04 May 2025 09:41 am Worse than last year? Not sure about that but I’m too lazy to look up stats. His defense is still above average 3rd baseman. He has gotten some clutch hits.
My problem is not his performance. Even if at All Star level who cares? He does not fit the long term plans. He has caused a log jam in the infield positions. And yes he is eating available $$’s that could go toward rebuild.
Cardinals should have forced his hand into a trade before season started. And please don’t tell me the NTC stopped that.

Many have disagreed with me but they should have told him his playing time was going to be limited due to youth movement. True that would leave talent and money on bench but better for organization in long run.Stlcardsblues wrote: ↑09 May 2025 23:09 pmNot sure how you force it, care to expand? It’s a terrible way to handle things and devalues the player for trade. Let him play and when a trade is there pull the trigger.Jatalk wrote: ↑10 May 2025 07:43 amMany have disagreed with me but they should have told him his playing time was going to be limited due to youth movement. I hear you but a trade was there with Houston and he killed it with NTC.Stlcardsblues wrote: ↑10 May 2025 18:05 pmIt’s a terrible way to handle things and devalues the player for trade. Mo needs to dig in and do his job. He needs to work harder to find a trade which works for the Cardinals and Arenado.Jatalk wrote: ↑10 May 2025 19:29 pmI hear you but a trade was there with Houston and he killed it with NTC.Stlcardsblues wrote: ↑10 May 2025 18:05 pmIt’s a terrible way to handle things and devalues the player for trade. No he doesn't. We aren't eating salary.this season.Stlcardsblues wrote: ↑10 May 2025 19:47 pmMo needs to dig in and do his job. Re: Nolan Arenado: He's worse than last year. So how we gonna rid ourselves of this plague?
We can afford that and Still have plenty of dry powder left. Nolan's contract is not the problem.Midrange Jay wrote: ↑04 May 2025 09:00 am He only has 2/$30 left after this year. Someone will take that on. We won’t get much in return, but that’s low risk to a team with resources.
Re: Nolan Arenado: He's worse than last year. So how we gonna rid ourselves of this plague?
Agree - he's still the best option we have at 3b, so unless Mo can find a Troy Glaus type to trade him for, I don't see the benefit of trading just to trade (or just to make the haters happy, which it still won't).Stlcardsblues wrote: ↑09 May 2025 23:09 pmNot sure how you force it, care to expand? I don’t think ‘plague’ is the right word. Don’t people die around you if there’s a plague going on?
