I guess we're not worried about a toxic clubhouse any longer
Just another moo ville attention getting fail
The existing toxicity over the past many years was all about bubble wrapping anointed players rather than assembling a roster capable of winning.
I don't care if a guy is vocal
I care if he produces.
Isn’t Devers pretty much exactly what you’re talking about? He believes he is entitled to play 3B despite being (bleep) poor at the position and when the team loses their 1B for the season instead of getting on the field, he’d rather complain to the media about how the team has asked him to do oh so much.
That's not quite accurate.
His objection was to taking on a 3rd different role just a quarter into the season.
He already agreed to move from 3B to DH duty - and is now asked to move to a completely new position at 1B mid-season.
Not a completely unreasonable point of view for him to have.
Remember, STL approached Contreras in somewhat similar circumstances and gave him and entire off-season to acclimate to the idea and the move
Devers did not create the situation in Boston.
The team did so through some poor roster construction
Well, it was when their 1B went down for the season. Had their 1B not gotten hurt for the year they wouldn’t be in this situation. If you’re a teammate who wants to help the team win and there isn’t another good player out there to fill in for the 1B, then you jump at the opportunity to do that. Devers, however, still sour from rightfully being moved off of 3B (where he sucked), is apparently not that kind of a teammate.
The Padres moved Tatis Jr. from SS to RF mid season after inking him to a $300 million deal. Did he complain? Not to my knowledge.
The Dodgers have moved Betts from RF to 2B to SS to wherever he is playing now. Has he complained? Not that I know of.
Tommy Edman was moved around how much? Ever complain? Don’t think so.
The Cardinals moved Contreras off of catcher a month into signing his deal. And then later was fine with moving off of catcher. Did he ever complain to the media? Again, no.
This is all on Devers, he’s taking it very poorly. I used to really want him. Now, not so much. Still love him as a hitter. As a teammate though he comes across as very unlikable.
