You’re welcome! Would seem so and consider that Herrera might be in there if he had been healthy. Getting him back soon and with the way that Contreras has been hitting lately, the team’s position players are set up pretty well. Just need to get Walker or Gorman or someone else to perform at a good level.

The list you made consists mainly of young guys. If Walker Gorman and or Willy get hot, could be fun.

I see war as a measurable stat. If it shows a direction and comparison it has value. Is it the best tool? I think that depends on your statistics objective.

From what I have read WAR has a discretionary factor of a comparable or average player. Maybe it is just over my head but I don’t like a stat that I can’t calculate.

WAR IS WORTHLESS IMO

WAR is a great stat as part of the discussion/evaluation. It should not be used as a say all end all stat. OPS+ and ERA+ is another good one. The eye test still matters as well. A good evaluator uses all tools available.

I hear ya. I don’t know the statistic input to the formula. I just use it as it measures each player equally whether the data is skewed or not.

To me stats are just a visible measuring tool.

I use WAR as simply one tool in the tool box when evaluating players, never have seen as the "be all and end all" some do.

I prefer a combination of my own experience + metrics + traditional counting stats when formulating an opinion.

No matter the structure of the formula, as long as all players are subject to the exact measurement standard then the comparison graph should be equal. Enough to compare.

And given where our players stand, then this could end up being a decent season IF they can correct their road woes.

they need to figure out the 6th thru 8th innings without destroying MM or GG--- leahy has been great, helsley hasn't pitched enough to get any traction --- matz has been decent but is he a short reliever? romero? then what?
