Problem is you could take a 100 Walkers and Gormans and they still wouldn’t be worth one Skenes.Shady wrote: ↑07 May 2025 10:24 am So the best young (age 22) starting pitcher in MLB, who happens to be established, wouldn't interest the Cardinals for a couple of "high ceiling" projects. Skenes would sure come in handy in a short series playoffs situation. As it stands, right now, are Walker and Gorman irreplaceable? Think about it before over reacting. What too many can't decipher is, I just threw this out there for discussion. I didn't propose the trade. There's a difference.
Re: Would the Pirates trade Skenes for both Walker and Gorman?
Its like asking someone if they would trade aaron miles for albert pujols. Its utterly ridiculous. Skenes could confend for cy young awards and hes still young and cost controlled and you are asking if he would be traded for what could be 2 failed prospects in their 3rd and 4th seasons. What kind of reactions were you expectingShady wrote: ↑07 May 2025 10:34 amAt least you gave some reasoning. Many here are more into SA remarks. I salute you.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑07 May 2025 10:28 amYes sir they would, and 29 other teams with better high end prospects. That’s the first thing.Shady wrote: ↑07 May 2025 10:24 am So the best young starting pitcher in MLB, who happens to be established, wouldn't interest the Cardinals for a couple of "high ceiling" projects. Second he’s a league level Ace. Two fledgling players won’t even touch that deal.
Re: Would the Pirates trade Skenes for both Walker and Gorman?
Ok, would the Pirates trade the Rookie of the Year Winner with the best stuff in the game, and the heir apparent as the next top pitcher in the game of baseball for 2 ex first rounders who after multiple years of opportunities have shown that they barely even belong in the major leagues?
How hard do you think the pirates would laugh if the cardinals proposed them that trade?

Something, some are missing. Skenes will demand some astronomical money in the future. Can the Pirates afford him, long term?Adam2 wrote: ↑07 May 2025 11:42 amOk, would the Pirates trade the Rookie of the Year Winner with the best stuff in the game, and the heir apparent as the next top pitcher in the game of baseball for 2 ex first rounders who after multiple years of opportunities have shown that they barely even belong in the major leagues?

Of course not. They will trade him in due time to avoid a total loss. Years away.Shady wrote: ↑07 May 2025 12:02 pmSomething, some are missing. An answer to your question of whether the Pirates will be able to afford him in the future would be “probably not”.Shady wrote: ↑07 May 2025 12:02 pmSomething, some are missing. That being said....how many years of control does he have?
3? 4?
When you factor that in to the equation why would they trade him now especially for two unproven players??
I predict they will look to deal him down the road.
Re: Would the Pirates trade Skenes for both Walker and Gorman?
No, everyone here knows that a healthy Skenes will one day command top dollar. What you are missing is that at that point the Pirates would trade him to whomever offered the richest package of prospects. So why Walker and Gorman now? Now if they threw a superstar in the making like Burleson in then the Pirates may bite.Shady wrote: ↑07 May 2025 12:02 pmSomething, some are missing. I just remember Miami picking up Alcantara and Gallen, that were not even where Walker and Gorman are now, for Ozuna. Who knows, maybe the Pirates would look ahead and take a gamble like Miami did.Mort Gage wrote: ↑07 May 2025 12:13 pmNo, everyone here knows that a healthy Skenes will one day command top dollar. Re: Would the Pirates trade Skenes for both Walker and Gorman?
That's because after the death of Taveras the Cardinals needed a power bat in the OF. Mo was desperate after striking out on Stanton and made a trade that backfired badly. The Pirates are not desperate. They can afford to hang on to Skenes until his arb figures become uncomfortable for their cheapskate owner. At that point Skenes will be much more valuable than Ozuna was and will get an enormous haul.Shady wrote: ↑07 May 2025 12:18 pmI just remember Miami picking up Alcantara and Gallen, that were not even where Walker and Gorman are now, for Ozuna.
