So the best young (age 22) starting pitcher in MLB, who happens to be established, wouldn't interest the Cardinals for a couple of "high ceiling" projects. Skenes would sure come in handy in a short series playoffs situation. As it stands, right now, are Walker and Gorman irreplaceable? Think about it before over reacting. That being said....how many years of control does he have?
3? 4?
When you factor that in to the equation why would they trade him now especially for two unproven players??

What you are missing is that at that point the Pirates would trade him to whomever offered the richest package of prospects. So why Walker and Gorman now? Now if they threw a superstar in the making like Burleson in then the Pirates may bite.

I just remember Miami picking up Alcantara and Gallen, that were not even where Walker and Gorman are now, for Ozuna. Who knows, maybe the Pirates would look ahead and take a gamble like Miami did.

That's because after the death of Taveras the Cardinals needed a power bat in the OF. Mo was desperate after striking out on Stanton and made a trade that backfired badly. The Pirates are not desperate. They can afford to hang on to Skenes until his arb figures become uncomfortable for their cheapskate owner. At that point Skenes will be much more valuable than Ozuna was and will get an enormous haul.
