Why would owners hire a manager they can’t control that would force them to spend more money??
DeWitt is the problem. He’s not rich enough to own a successful team in today’s MLB because he’s not willing to take payroll chances.
Again, DeWitt is the problem. rolls downhill. DeWitt is at the top. It’s him. Anyone arguing otherwise is a Stan
The last time I checked, the Cardinals ownership was ranked #7 in MLB.
Last time I checked, the Cardinals team was ranked #22 in MLB. That’s what matters.
What matters is how well the ownership has done
since they purchased the team, and how well it is now set up for the future with Bloom, Cerfolio, etc.
You’re suggesting that what happened 30 years ago matters more than this season?
What I’m suggesting, is to judge anything or anyone, look at their entire body of work.
Ok, let’s do that.
1996-2015: great
2016-present: consistently backsliding
2026-???: TBD
And again, pro sports is a “what have you done for me lately” business. Like it or not, it just is.

What have you done for me lately applies to players more than managers and owners. The Blues let go 4 HOF coaches.

That’s why I challenged them to do what worked when we were on top. Right now they’re an example of the definition of insanity.

Good chronology, and I’ll add that within the 1996-2015 period, you could see the rope starting to fray in 2013-2014. We had chances to bolster the pitching staff and didn’t do it. Passed up native St. Louisans like Mark Buehrle and Max Scherzer.

They’ve won 88 or more games in 4 of the last 6 full seasons. Not exactly a severe down slide.

14 seasons since our last World Series championship.
12 seasons since our last NL pennant
11 seasons since competing in the NLCS
Won only one postseason series in the last 11 years
1-9 in our last 10 playoff games
That’s a severe downside. 88 win seasons are mediocre at best, and we haven’t even done that regularly.
Hope the Cards front office is paying you adequately for your poor Baghdad Bob impersonation.

1 years ago: Cards (83-79) missed playoffs; Blues (43-39) missed playoffs
2 years ago: Cards (71-91) missed playoffs; Blues (37-45) missed playoffs
3 years ago: Cards (93-69) lost in 1st round; Blues (49-33) lost in 2nd round
4 years ago: Cards (90-72) lost in 1st round; Blues (27-29) lost in 1st round
5 years ago: Cards (30-28) lost in 1st round; Blues (42-29) lost in 1st round
You have to admit, there is a pretty dramatic difference.

If the Cards don’t make the playoffs, it’s the fault of the front office. If the Cardinals, after a successful season, don’t do well in the playoffs, it’s the players’ fault.

The Blues, in the midst of a dismal start, pounce on perhaps the best Head Coach in the league and now we are in the playoffs having been the best team in the NHL for the second part of the season. This is deja vu as they did the same thing in 2019.
The Cards need to go back to the days of Schoendienst, Herzog, LaRussa and bring in proven talent to turn the ship around. Make the transition now with MO/Bloom and hopefully allow Bloom to bring in a proven manager like Skip Schumacher, who won Manager of the Year two years ago. If not Skip then someone who can manage a game and a roster as well. Someone that the players can look up to, respect and be inspired by. Monty does all of this for the Blues.
If it's broken fix it.
Look, you've got to quit putting so much pressure on Oli. Baseball is hard. I think another extension, make it a solid 5 years this time, that way he'll know he can really ease into this thing, and everything will be fine. Remember, he never made it to the big leagues, he's figuring all this out as he goes. Oli's a person. Don't be so cruel. There's more to life than winning. There's nothing more important in baseball than winning. But isn't the old saying, baseball is life? Eh, ehh? See, good.

The Blues are playing the Presidents Cup winner. Best team in the NHL. Last night was the only game the Blues were not competitive. Hopefully they will bounce back again.

And they are playing the Presidents Cup winner in the 1st round because they grabbed the 8th and final spot for the playoffs in the Western Conference. Note that they would not have even made the playoffs if the NHL playoff format were structured like MLB. Also note that if the NHL playoffs were structured like the MLB playoffs, the Blues would have been swept out of the playoffs in 2 games, much like the Cards in 2023.
It's funny to me how people think the Blues are so incredibly successful, while the Cardinals are thought to be awful.
Yes, the Blues won the Stanley Cup in 2019, but outside of that, yikes.

We're probably older than you. I started following the Cards in the late fifties. I remember 1964, 1967,1968, 1982, 1985,1987, 2006,2011 and a couple of losses. We're spoiled. I remember Musial, Boyer, White, Ozzie, Brock, Gibson, Pujols, Carlton, Reuss, Forsch and on and on and on. Then I look at today and recent years and I'm sorry but I'm spoiled and I expect more.

Yes, I expect more from the Cards too. A lot more.
My point is, let's not point to the Blues as the shining example of what we want the Cards to be.
The Blues as a franchise are the definition of mediocre, if even that. Somehow, fans have been tricked into thinking they are great team with an incredible GM.
