The trouble with guessing loss totals now is that after the deadline most sellers lose at a faster rate. We will play about 1/3 of a season without Arenado, Helsley, Fedde, and ???. After the deadline the strong teams get stronger and the weak teams get weaker. (At least for the rest of the season) An exception was the Detroit Tigers last year. They sold and made the playoffs.

I found out relatively early in life that the ability to admit when one is wrong will mitigate many potential issues/conflicts down the road.

It's called marriage, but we can apply it to all aspects of our lives.

Time, yes. Games, yes.
Talent, probably not.

Yes, I predicted the Cards would win 78 games this season. I'm such an idiot! This is not even close to being a 78 win team. And what's worse...this team is doomed for the next several seasons.

1. The organization is terrible. They no longer develop star players. Hell, even in the 70's they developed talent like Hernandez, Templeton, Simmons, Forsch. Now who do we have? Noot...okay. Hurdy Gurdy...sure. But no real star power, is there?

2. The Manager is horrific. Sure, this is his last season. But hey...had to fire Shildt because he wasn't a yes man!

3. The DeWitt's didn't like spending money when we drew three million fans. We sure as heck won't be signing any elite free agents now.

4. No sense of urgency. Reminds me of the early 90's when August III ran the team. He didn't care. He didn't spend. No sense or urgency to turn things around and win.

I'm frustrated. How did this once proud franchise fall so fast? Horrible drafting and horrible player development.
I've seen this movie before. It could easily be years before we're competitive again. Sad.
See you next year!!
The ole wait till next year ................. while we're still in April .................. not a great sign.

That's not a problem unique to StL. It's a bad division for a reason. Other divisional teams have big talent shortages too. Maybe not the Cubs. The Cubs could win going away.

The only thing I would quibble with is that this franchise didn't "fall so fast." It's been on the decline for at least a decade with complacency and poor player development, plus dumb FA moves (e.g. Leake, Fowler) and poor player evaluation/trades.

What we've seen in the last few years was just a continuation: complacency and lack of urgency even as the whole thing started crumbling. It has basically been like a big sand castle that had the tide slowly eroding the base for several years, before it suddenly collapses.

I thought they'd be better than this too. I believe the talent on the roster suggests they should be better. Sum of parts greater than whole. There doesn't appear to be a winning culture here anymore and that's why. The roster decisions and management approach don't enforce a winning culture. Nobody knows what the target is. Games are just being played.

I can’t believe during a reset you’d think a great season will emerge. We got this whole season to go to assess the youth, then cut bait in off season, then add one stud.

Then play 2026, do all over and compete in 2027.

We got a while before what most of you expect to happen will.

Not happy about it just looking at the reality of the situation.

Thank God for the Pirates.

For now.
I didn’t make a w/l prediction, but I did pick them to finish 4th in the division.

Looking pretty solid, although I also picked the Reds to win the division.

You're not alone:

With NADO + Helsley + Fedde all season:

86 - 76

Without those three:

71 - 91

Update:
Now it looks like 71 - 91 even with those three all season

Who could've seen 2 - 12 in their first 14 road games?

They are proud of what they have accomplished. After all, it takes some big brass balls to take a 3.3 million attendance team and turn it into a 2.0 million team. Hats off to you boys!
Mo won't do it unless forced by ownership, but it'll most likely be one of the first things Bloom does when he assumes full control.
This is EXACTLY what needs to happen. A new manager can shake up a team. Of course said new manager cannot walk on water and this is still a .500 team at best (with the wind behind them). The starting pitching is at least half decent. The BP has cost them 5 or 6 games at least. The hitting approach is much better, but there are still the Walker/Gorman not developing problems, along with others of course. But a new manager can often reboot a team. Of course many of us have called for Oli's dismissal for several seasons and no matter how poorly he and the team do.... he is still here. I suspect if Bloom had actual power, Oli would be gone tomorrow. Geez, you could at least have gotten Skippy. He couldn't do worse.
