Re: Magic Number
The thing about Calgary's schedule is their games against Vegas and LA could very easily be games where those two teams finally get to rest, being locked into the 1-2 spots in the Pacific.

Re: Magic Number
I'm not clutching my pearls just yet, but the last 2 nights were a kick in the shin. We don't need good teams giving away points to the enemy just because they can. It's rare, but teams do in fact sit players if they don't need the points.seattleblue wrote: ↑08 Apr 2025 18:24 pm The thing about Calgary's schedule is their games against Vegas and LA could very easily be games where those two teams finally get to rest, being locked into the 1-2 spots in the Pacific.

Vancouver just scored 3 goals in the final minute and then beat Dallas in OT.Harold_Melvin wrote: ↑08 Apr 2025 19:48 pmI'm not clutching my pearls just yet, but the last 2 nights were a kick in the shin. Blues can’t rely on other teams for help to get into the playoffs. Have to win out.

Re: Magic Number
Again, Vancouver had to win all their games in regulation and they didn't and the Blues have now clinched on them.
Re: Magic Number
It sure helps that the Flame and Wild play eachother
Re: Magic Number
This synopsis focuses only on regulation wins and lasses, factoring in OT is too complicated, too many scenarios. I believe I have the following right:
Vancouver cannot catch the Blues but they can still catch Calgary and Minnesota.
Minnesota controls their own destiny vs Blues. This of course doesn't matter if the Blues beat out Calgary.
If the Blues win two of their final three games in regulation Calgary cannot catch them, Blues would clinch a playoff spot. Blues can clinch with fewer than two regulation wins if one of Minnesota or Calgary loses enough games. If the Blues win one game and Calgary loses one game in regulation the Blues are in.
If the Blues beat Edmonton in regulation the pressure will mount on Calgary not to lose, the upcoming Calgary-Minnesota game would be huge.

Re: Magic Number
The magic number stands at 4 but it's likely 3 points one way or the other would suffice since Calgary's OT loss has dimmed their tie-breaker chances. 1 regulation win with only 2 games remaining likely seals the deal. In or out, it's a great time to be a Blues fan.

Re: Magic Number
Minny has 2 games to go and can finish with 97 points.
That's 1 more than the Blues could finish with, so there's no debate about Minny being ahead of the Blues.
So the last spot is down to the Blues and Calgary.
With one game to go the most points the Blues can finish with is 96.
Calgary has 3 games to go and could finish with 96 points too, but they could win out in regulation and pass the Blues in the RW tie breaker.
So even if the Blues win the their last game, Calgary still needs to lose a point along the way for the Blues to get in.
The magic number is 3.

Re: Magic Number
I just read the article by Jeff Gordon. if we win in regulation, we're in, no matter what Calgary does. We hold the tie breaker even if they win out.
Re: Magic Number
Yep. Win in regulation and we are in (or) Calgary loses any of next 3.hockey jedi wrote: ↑13 Apr 2025 00:36 am I just read the article by Jeff Gordon. if we win in regulation, we're in, no matter what Calgary does. We hold the tie breaker even if they win out.

Re: Magic Number
If blues win their last game in regulation, even if calgary won all 3 in reg wed be tied in regulation wins and easily win the row tiebreaker. A regulation win clinchesHarold_Melvin wrote: ↑13 Apr 2025 00:24 am Minny has 2 games to go and can finish with 97 points.

Yep, a regulation win is the key to getting in. If the Blues don't win in regulation then they will need help.Wattage wrote: ↑13 Apr 2025 00:47 amIf blues win their last game in regulation, even if calgary won all 3 in reg wed be tied in regulation wins and easily win the row tiebreaker. Re: Magic Number
Losing 4 in a row would lose in the playoffs anyway. If we dont win we werent gonna go far in playoffs anyways.Harold_Melvin wrote: ↑13 Apr 2025 01:05 amYep, a regulation win is the key to getting in.
