Some of you folks obsession with corner OF defense as opposed to offense is maddening.

If Herrera winds up as an .800-850 OPS OF'er I don't care if he ever throws anyone out.

That's what 4th extra OF defensive replacements are on the bench for.

It would also be nice for Contreras to get out of his funk. Problem is, he's not a spring chicken, so to speak.

By season's end, Contreras will once again be one of the top hitter's on this team and have an OPS over .800.

Wait, Ivan the terrible can't throw from home to second and is suspect defensively...and now CT wants him bouncing around the field?!

Dude hasn't played anything but catcher, except 8 times at 1b...since he's been 17

Teams would always challenge him to try to take the extra base on balls in the gaps or in the corner. And that’s assuming he would have even average range as an outfielder which has not been displayed. First base or dh is his future.
+1 if he has trouble throwing runners out from at second from catcher they would be taking second on him on singles and scoring easily from second
-2

The liability of exposure due to a rag arm is much less in LF than it is at catcher.
-3 they will run on his arm all day since he can’t even throw from home to second he would give up a lot of extra bases

ok
And Burly will be a part-time player because he can't run, field, hit for power, or hit lefties.

Yes. How did we survive all those years with Matt Holliday's rag arm in LF?

Throwing from the outfield and throwing as a catcher are fairly different things, anyway.

What I have heard is that as a catcher, his "pop time" is not good. I have heard that his throws are not very accurate. I have not heard that his arm is weak.

Pages is the best catcher anyway.
And for these reasons the Cardinals are going to be confronted with a fork in the road at every turn, an ongoing decision to make throughout this season whether they are trying to play the future team or trying to have a chance to win.

After a few more losing series, it would probably be in the best interest to bag it up.

I'll admit, I'm not too thrilled with Burleson's hitting, right now. Can you say the same for how Contreras is hitting? Also, what did you think of this comment in a recent post? "Its basically gonna be Contreras and Arenado taking potential AB's from Herrera and Gorman. Which isn't exactly ideal long term".

Yes, but I'll take it for what he provides offensively. He has the ability to be an all star caliber hitter, and not because he started hot. He has shown signs for a while now

Cardinals have a lot catchers depth in their organization. I think a position change to the OF or 1B could be in his future.

Lou Brock had a poor throwing arm as did Stan Musial.
