Last week I posted a 'best bet' selection for the Cards that had Saggese winning RoY, and now he's up. Should hit some bombs, too.

Prieto is turning 26 and he hasnt made it to the majors nor hit amazingly in the minkrs to demand immediate promotion. Hes running out of time to be considered prospect.

Sem robberse hasnt exactly had eye popping numbers in minors and neither has roby.

Saggese wasnt great in memphis last season butnill reserve judgment cuz he is still young and hit at every other level so he could still emerge but trying to sell them all as major assets is just living in denial

You have no idea if those guys are good or not. No one does.
Of course we look. Take the time to look up their stats and scouting reports.
Baseball is littered with guys who perform in the minors but can’t at the big league level. They might, they might not. I don’t know and neither do you.
They didn't trade for major leaguers. They traded for high level prospects. All of the guys we picked up in the trades fall into your category. They traded for the future, but you don't seem to understand that.
Evidently you didnt look at their stats despite your statement cuz only saggese gas been impressive in the minors(other than saggeses last year)

   I think Cranny thinks the MLB Cardinals play in Memphis…..that’s his point of reference if a player is viable….

Maybe you and others should do some homework. Roby has been hurt. He has upper starting rotation potential. Was hitting 98 on the gun in Jupiter.
Could be Helsley’s replacement.
Saggese was the All Star minor league second baseman two years ago. All levels, all organizations’ minor league teams. Was one of the youngest players in AAA last year. Was the first one called up when Gorman just went down,

They didn’t give up anything of significance. Monty was having a good year but a team won’t give up a lot for a 2 month rental. Where MO messed up is keeping Goldschmidt and Arenado. They would have commanded a nice haul. The team would be in a much better spot today had he pulled the trigger on trading them that year.

Then we don’t know if the trades were good yet.
It’s been almost 2 years. And those guys weren’t exactly freshly drafted when we got them. Meanwhile, we have promoted other talent we drafted ourselves past them such as winn, Scott, the catchers, and soon McGreevey.

I dont care about tekoah roby hitting 98 if he gets rocked every year. He hasnt had an era below 4.6 since A ball i. 2021. Upper starting rotation potential? Please. Why shpuld i believe he is suddenly going to have an era 2 whole runs lower rhan every minor league season.

Many closers and great relievers are failed starters so maybe his stuff will play if he is moved to bullpen, but projecting hom as a 1-2 starter at this point is just blind homerism.

And saggese i said i havent written off. I have hope for him but he will need to show improvement in AAA this year.

And monty should have gotten at least a good prospect. And I agree we otherwise didnt give up much. All rentals.n only monty was actually good. Stratton was an average run of the mill reliever. Flaherty was having a mediocre season(and didnt really perform the rest of the year anyways)

I will be happy if saggese emerges and have no problem with the trades. But your hyping these guys like super prospects and assets is risiculous cool-aid drinking

No you did not name 4 good players. Prieto is basically minor league filler at this point. Hes is older than saggese and the same age about as fermin and yet they are both ahead of him on deoth chart- with fermin not exactly being impressive himself. Doesnt bode well for his future. He may never even make majors. His minkr league numbers arent impressive and he isnt a defensive stalwart.

Roby has given up over runs per 9 innings since the start of 2022 and injuries are piling up too. You literally earlier this thread told me a guy with a 4.64 4.63, and 6.57 era.the last 3 years projects as a top of the rotation starter. That is beyond delusional. You've backed off that statement a little now and instead countered we gave up nothing of value butnthat doesnt change the fact that that was an absolutely insane claim.

Sem robberse likewise has had 5.79, 4.53, 4.57, and 4.78 era the last 4 years.

3 of your listed "good players" may never even makenthe major leagues or last long. They were prospects when we got them. They havent progressed as hoped and are losing that status.

The OP said name one good player. I’ve named 4. I never said that they were sure bets.

Good analysis. Can't see how anyone can dispute these facts!

Konstantinov wrote: 04 Apr 2025 16:29 pm That year was massively important for the organization, the rare fire sale giving up your best players in an awful season. Trades like these are supposed to rebuild your major league team quickly on the fly, much like the Oakland A's and Tampa have done for many seasons.

The trades of Jordan Hicks, Jordan Montgomery, Jack Flaherty have resulted to exactly zero usable assets at the major league level.

This is why the Cardinals are going nowhere fast.
They have nobody making personnel decisions that knows anything about baseball.
Roby
Saggase
Robberse
Prieto
Have thus far amounted to nothing more than POTENTIAL last man on the bench, utility players and questionable major league pitchers.

Mo got NOTHING of value.
