Re: Tortorella
I don't understand firing him with essentially 11 games in the season. Should have just let him finish it out and fire him once the season is over.moose-and-squirrel wrote: ↑27 Mar 2025 09:25 am out in Philly.. took longer than I expected

Philly has been floundering for quite a number of years now. They need someone who can take them to the next level.
I could actually see this being Quenville's landing spot.

Re: Tortorella
I never thought he would get through about a season and a half. He just seems to be a toxic guy whose shelf life expires pretty quickly. Oh well, what team is next.

he made a statement to the press basically saying I don't know how to coach a rebuilding team.. now he doesn't have to worry about itTheJackBurton wrote: ↑27 Mar 2025 09:30 amI don't understand firing him with essentially 11 games in the season. Well that's idiotic, but at least he knows his weaknesses.moose-and-squirrel wrote: ↑27 Mar 2025 09:48 amhe made a statement to the press basically saying I don't know how to coach a rebuilding team.. now he doesn't have to worry about itTheJackBurton wrote: ↑27 Mar 2025 09:30 amI don't understand firing him with essentially 11 games in the season. Thing is what established team is getting rid of their coach and would bring him in?
I think his future is either in consulting or behind a mic.

his 'weakness' is he can't be bothered to actually teachTheJackBurton wrote: ↑27 Mar 2025 09:49 amWell that's idiotic, but at least he knows his weaknesses.moose-and-squirrel wrote: ↑27 Mar 2025 09:48 amhe made a statement to the press basically saying I don't know how to coach a rebuilding team.. now he doesn't have to worry about itTheJackBurton wrote: ↑27 Mar 2025 09:30 amI don't understand firing him with essentially 11 games in the season. I have no idea what the coaching situations are for the offseason, but I guess there's always the KHL

I'm certainly not defending him, but he has won a cup so he can teach something.moose-and-squirrel wrote: ↑27 Mar 2025 09:54 amhis 'weakness' is he can't be bothered to actually teachTheJackBurton wrote: ↑27 Mar 2025 09:49 amWell that's idiotic, but at least he knows his weaknesses.moose-and-squirrel wrote: ↑27 Mar 2025 09:48 amhe made a statement to the press basically saying I don't know how to coach a rebuilding team.. now he doesn't have to worry about itTheJackBurton wrote: ↑27 Mar 2025 09:30 amI don't understand firing him with essentially 11 games in the season. I think he's just too old school and believes those methods are still workable in today's game and they just aren't.
He needs a Hitchcock like off season or such where he goes and coaches some young kids and understands what changes he needs to make if he's going to be successful again.
I just think it'll be a little while before he gets a call from a team again.

Hitch is prolly a good comp. and agree with the 'old school' mentality angleTheJackBurton wrote: ↑27 Mar 2025 09:59 amI'm certainly not defending him, but he has won a cup so he can teach something.moose-and-squirrel wrote: ↑27 Mar 2025 09:54 amhis 'weakness' is he can't be bothered to actually teachTheJackBurton wrote: ↑27 Mar 2025 09:49 amWell that's idiotic, but at least he knows his weaknesses.moose-and-squirrel wrote: ↑27 Mar 2025 09:48 amhe made a statement to the press basically saying I don't know how to coach a rebuilding team.. now he doesn't have to worry about itTheJackBurton wrote: ↑27 Mar 2025 09:30 amI don't understand firing him with essentially 11 games in the season. he just comes off as such an abrasive guy. I def wouldn't wanna play for someone like that
Re: Tortorella
He's 66 years old. I know sometimes you can "teach an old dog new tricks", but not sure in Torts' case. And does he even want to learn/change? If I was a betting man I'd say no.TheJackBurton wrote: ↑27 Mar 2025 09:59 amI'm certainly not defending him, but he has won a cup so he can teach something.moose-and-squirrel wrote: ↑27 Mar 2025 09:54 amhis 'weakness' is he can't be bothered to actually teachTheJackBurton wrote: ↑27 Mar 2025 09:49 amWell that's idiotic, but at least he knows his weaknesses.moose-and-squirrel wrote: ↑27 Mar 2025 09:48 amhe made a statement to the press basically saying I don't know how to coach a rebuilding team.. now he doesn't have to worry about itTheJackBurton wrote: ↑27 Mar 2025 09:30 amI don't understand firing him with essentially 11 games in the season. He has shown he can be a good guy with a lot of the stuff he does off the camera, but I would imagine his personality on camera is exactly the way he is in the locker room.

Re: Tortorella
Brad Shaw is a great guy; got to know him and his family when he was here. Maybe they are giving him an audition!
Re: Tortorella
I suppose lots of people won the over on his term there.
I'm sure some other team will take on this recycled hack.
And yes, he's good for sound bites, that's about it.

Re: Tortorella
I may be in the minority, but I kind of find Torts likable. His honesty at least is refreshing, in a world full of predetermined, vanilla answers he always shot straight from the hip. That said, if he can’t make it in a market like Philly, IS there a market he can make it in?
Re: Tortorella
Is Torts the modern-day version of Mike Keenan?
