The real truth on this also will be if Walker and Gorman keeping to their career norms and underwhelm are allowed to play at sub par levels for months on end. It really should be 45 days at most and if they do not perform Koperniak and Saggesse/Prieto get the call ups and these guys go to AAA (Walker) or trade (Gorman). Koperniak deserves a shot. Guys can bloom late. Matt may just be one of those. I also have to ask how long of a leash Marmol is going to be given. A small part of me wishes this team sucks wind simply to toss out Marmol and Mo all in one fell swoop. Come All star break Bloom takes over. Makes changes like this and team makes playoffs.Bomber1 wrote: ↑25 Mar 2025 08:48 amecleme22 wrote: ↑25 Mar 2025 08:27 amWe can agree to disagree, but here is the scenario Siani makes sense: when there is currently NO playing time available on the MLB roster, coupled with suspect outfield defense.sdaltons wrote: ↑25 Mar 2025 00:59 amWe are going to have to agree to disagree on this. There is no scenario I can see where Siani makes sense. A couple all glove types are fine when your regular starting lineup can rake. That is very much not the case here.
You can be sure if the offense looks like a black hole, Siani will be optioned for X player, and X player will get a long look.
But for now, they want to give guys on the current roster a long look...
Last year the offense WAS a black hole, yet Koperniak never sniffed the Ml roster.
Why do you believe this year will be different?

Re: Siani isn't blocking anyone
In 2014, PB was laughably treated like the starting CF.
Bad example.

Siani:
.220 .275 .272 .547
54 OPS+

Bourjos (Cardinal yrs):
.218 .292 .342 .634
76 OPS+
OMGosh, Siani is actually WORSE than Bourjos!

Bourjos had less than 300 PAs in 2014. Siani was used more last year and was worse.ecleme22 wrote: ↑25 Mar 2025 13:04 pmSiani won't be used like PB in 2014.rockondlouie wrote: ↑25 Mar 2025 13:01 pmSiani:

Siani should have more put outs than at bats.Futuregm2 wrote: ↑25 Mar 2025 13:06 pmBourjos had less than 300 PAs in 2014. Siani was used more last year and was worse.ecleme22 wrote: ↑25 Mar 2025 13:04 pmSiani won't be used like PB in 2014.rockondlouie wrote: ↑25 Mar 2025 13:01 pmSiani:

Siani only played so much in 2024 because he was the only option...
Re: Siani isn't blocking anyone
It’s shocking that they would trade for the player and then use them a lot early on. Especially coming off a year where he had a 102 OPS+ the year before.ecleme22 wrote: ↑25 Mar 2025 13:20 pmHe was used a lot early in 2014.Futuregm2 wrote: ↑25 Mar 2025 13:06 pmBourjos had less than 300 PAs in 2014. Siani wasn’t the only option, but he was the most loved option, just like you say Bourjos was in 2014. I see some comps from Bourjos/Siani in 2014/24 and how they will be/were played in 2025/15. I think it’s kind of crazy to act like the Siani situation is that much different than the Bourjos situation. Neither should be/should have been on the rosters in year 2.
Seeing you start all of these Siani threads/Scott threads is really showing how crazy you are going over this.

Just as true now as it was 6 weeks ago.Basil Shabazz wrote: ↑25 Mar 2025 07:08 amBarrero is not a developing prospect. We will see, if Siani plays alot, then it is an issue. He is a low ceiling guy who should not have resources wasted on him, playing time is a resource.
We are not developing Jose Barrero!
Siani makes no sense. We are occupying a roster spot on a guy who cannot hit his weight to be a defensive replacement for one player(Walker). Scott and Noot do not need a defensive replacement.
Re: Siani isn't blocking anyone
But if Walker was hitting, Siani may still be on the team.Basil Shabazz wrote: ↑06 May 2025 15:14 pmJust as true now as it was 6 weeks ago.Basil Shabazz wrote: ↑25 Mar 2025 07:08 amBarrero is not a developing prospect. As I have said, out of the gate, it was all about JW, VS and LN in the outfield. They played the majority of April. And as guys perform or not, you reassess. In no way did I think Siani was going to be on the team all season if more offense was needed.
And it worked out. Barrero got 101 PA in AAA, so he's battled tested and fresh now on the MLB roster.
