Hey Brummer, MY GGG was a huge fan of pork steaks as well-like every old German/Scot in that city.
My olfactory memory of him is Stag beer, Hi-ho crackers and peanut butter. I can smell it like it was yesterday (with a Cards game on the transistor radio, naturally).
Great stuff, satch.
In southeast Missouri, pork steaks were a staple, but Stag was kind of the country/dive bar beer. My dad drank Busch and Budweiser, kinda the middle class beers. I gained an appreciation for Stag in college because it was cheap, and underage patrons didn't get kicked out of country bars or dives as long as we acted respectful. I still have a Stag when I can find it.

You know what the lineup is going to be:
Winn SS
Noot LF
Contreras 1B
Arenado 3B
Donovan 2B
Herrera C
Donovan DH
Walker RF
Scott C
Maybe Gorman over Burleson at DH but you know (drat) well that's the opening day lineup
I agree except I don’t think Donovan gets to play second base and DH unless they changed some rules. My guess is that Gorman is the DH but who knows. They really need to trade Arenado or if not him Burlerson. Winn should hit ninth and Scott first to see how things go.
You think Scott can handle the pressure of Leadoff?
If ever there was a time to find out, then this is the year.
(Based on his STing I'd say, "H e l l yes"!)
Since they announced VS2 officially....
I like that first lineup a lot.
That DH call will be interesting.
I still see Oli putting Winn at leadoff... he knows best.
Winn will be at lead-off since Oli is a genius and we're all a bunch of hacks.
He and his .314 OBP
Even worse, .290 OB% when hitting leadoff in 2024.

How does this align with the “analytics way”?? This whole org is one foot in…..one foot out in everything they do…..nothing makes any sense

You both tell a great story. No it’s Busch beer. By far the best tasting beer from a keg. No hang over. And cheap.
My history on beer went like this - schlits malt liquor, millet ponies, miller Busch coors light, none.

Bulldog. I always liked that ice cold Old Style keg beer that was served in pitchers at Ruth's La Cantina in Sikeston. I know you gotta remember that place!!

I don't hold myself up as a connesseur of beer, but I'm much more of one now than when I was in my teens and twenties. I never particularliy cared for Miller products (don't get me wrong, I drank what was put in front of me) but Miller Lite was always popular with the ladies. Coors products were usually next in line behind A-B products, as well as Olympia, and whatever no-name cheap beer was available at the 9-0-5.

Miller ponies were about baseball sized. Perfect for nailing street signs and Highway signs.
You think Scott can handle the pressure of Leadoff?
First, pressure is something a person places on themselves only if the are thinking of outcomes vs just playing in the moment.
Secondly, the name in No. 1 slot only guaranteed to bat first to open a game. In 2nd inning, the 4th of 5th batter may leadoff’ the Inning. So what’s the big deal.
For me, it would be no more pressure leading off in the 1st inning than if I was the first batter coming to the plate in the 5th inning and I am in the 8th spot on lineup card.
Anyone else feel the same as me ?
