No.
And why not? By all accounts, he was a big factor in getting what we got out of Pallante. Smart guy, been around the block, and if we're (hopefully) going young in the pitching department, why not go with someone who's been there, but also understands how the modern game is played? I'm not saying he's got to be the pitching coach, but a roving one? Where's the harm?
Lots of harm...he's not a coach.
Enough with players who once took a [shirt] for Cards. New eyes, ears, and coaching.
...he coached Pallante.

I understand not wanting the old pals act, I don't either, but for advisory positions and roving instructors? There is no harm. I'm not asking him to put a team together.
You said "coaching role.". No thanks

 He played one season for us.
Yes, that's what I said.

With respect with the posters on this thread. Keep in mind several things.

1. Gray is likely injured. Not good news.
2. Rookie pitchers are a good thing but their arms are not built or ready to pitch 150-180 innings. That comes after a couple of seasons with a big club. It can literally destroy them to use too much too quickly.
3. Matz has a poor track record of giving innings.
4. Mikolas is fading - today notwithstanding
5. Gibson is good for taking the ball every time he pitches. Plus he teaches the younger players the ropes = Pallante.

He cost around $7-9 mm, I'd guess. They appear comfortable with McGreevy sixth, Liberatore seventh, and I presume Graceffo eighth. Their rotation depth looks OK. If injuries hit and they need someone to cover innings maybe they come back to him or another vet. But now I think they are happy to save money.
A week before opening day, it could be half as much as what you’re suggesting guaranteed, but with incentives based on IP.

I’m a little surprised he’s still available. I’d guess his agent was asking for something around the value of his declined option. Not getting there now.

Why? They have enough of him. Let McGreevy or one of the others start.

More importantly, why have NONE of the other 31 teams signed Gibson? That should speak volumes.

Gibson make a lot of sense if there is a Fedde trade about to happen. Or if Gray has a season ending injury.

Barring those, I'm fine not signing him. But...hang onto his phone number...

If Gray is hurt, then I absolutely agree. We cannot expect a rookie to pitch 150-180 innings. We would need some veteran insurance.

Save on service time since younger player can get experience in AAA.

Considering there’s only 30 teams, that IS bad…

Orioles gave him 5.25 with another 1.5 in incentives. You were in the neighborhood.

Not bad for a last-minute signing. I think his previous success with the Orioles helped.
