Did I get that right?
Yep. And we're the only ones "stupid enough" to keep trying to make it in, under this scenario.

I wonder if he knows what the difference is between picking say 13th (the highest the Blues could reasonably pick, if they just quit trying) or picking 17th (reasonably the furthest their pick would fall if they peskily insist on trying to win), in terms of producing NHL talent?

From 2010 to 2020, here are the 13th and 17th overall picks:

13th
Joey Hishon
Nathan Beulieu
Tomas Hertl
Curtis Lazar
Travis Sanheim
Kyle Connor
Dante Fabbro
Timothy Liljegren
Ty Smith
Peyton Krebs
Lukas Reichel

11 guys, 2 top six players, 2 top 4 D, and a bunch of suspects. 4/11 odds to land an impact player.

17th
Brandon Gormley
Sven Baertschi
Radek Faksa
Josh Morrissey
Jakub Vrana
Jakub Zboril
Jake Bean
Nick Suzuki
Ty Dellandrea
Spencer Knight
Seth Jarvis

11 guys, 2 top six players, 1 top 4 D, and a starting goalie prospect. 4/11 odds to land an impact player.

Imagine that.

Good advice. Thank you. I am a relatively new poster to this forum. I have no idea whom any of the other folks are, that regularly post. However, I have figured out a few whom are miserable, or are just not really knowledgeable about the game.

I'm not a tank guy but I wouldn't have rescued the team either by getting some help. I don't think they're in it with how bad the D was playing back then and Fowler really helped stabilize things. Really impressed that losing CP, who was having a top 10 Dman season, didn't tank them either as Leddy/Faulk have stepped it up.

Am I happy the Blues are winning and making a playoff push? Absolutely! It's always fun for our boys to be in the mix. Hope they get in and knock the #1 off and keep on trucking.
This is a fair take, but I do get why the Cam Fowler trade happened. We were in contention when it happened, and guys like Parayko and flippin Suter were throwing out WAY too many minutes. It was a recipe for 2 things. Parayko was going to be exposed to injury and gassing him out for the long haul of his career. (I'm talking serious injury not what ended up happening) And Suter was going to become a public target of hate. It also wasn't good for our 2 young guys in Kessel and Tucker (at the time perunovich). While it might have been good for them to get more playing time for their own sake, those guys aren't evaluated at anything other than bottom pairings. Them getting skewered isn't helpful for anyone in that locker room.

Fowler was a cheap option and as Army put it, he rewarded the guys in the locker room for gutting it out. They were winning at the time. He made a move because they were playing hard. Didn't have to mortgage the future. Was a simple hockey move to make the team better and reward culture. And if there's anything we can take away today, the culture of the Blues is at near all time highs for this group of players. I'd rather have a happy bunch playing to win, then a chicago like locker room where they can't stand each other. Now if you are tanking, and you can keep the culture that say San Jose has, then go for it. Those guys are vibing over there. But they knew they didn't have the talent to compete yet. That can't be said for the Note players. They think they can compete and want to.

I'm pretty sure they have stated and by they I mean multiple sock bots that they aren't Blues fans. They have stopped hiding it and have said things like "your team" which is clear to say the IT's aren't apart of the fandom.

Meanwhile, Blues fans are getting to witness meaningful hockey again during a youth movement at the forward position. We just are getting the bonus of an extra 20 games of playoff hockey. The team is in the exact spot we thought they would be in, 7-10.

If this team maintains its current level of play, there is no way they drop to the 7th overall and highly unlikely they even get the 10 spot.

Getting our young core players to gain some playoff experience, I feel would be better for the franchise overall, than hoping for a top 12 or so draft position pick to work out.
Just my opinion.

that was meant to be 7th in the west to 10th in the west.

I believe the poster was saying 7-10th in the conference. Not draft slot. I think that’s what you are saying. The wind is affecting my brain.

Agree at this pace no way we now pick that high unless we miss the last slot and then hit gold in the lottery.

Not one person commented on the 5-year trend that I provided.

Is it just coincidence that they play like Cup contenders when the regular season is mostly over?

Everyone knows what I think.

Good thing about me is that at least I takes a stand. I don't run from the facts.

I don't think any sane person thinks the Blues are Cup contenders. Being a playoff contender is nowhere near the same thing as being a legit Cup contender.
It is a process- it's like climbing a ladder. You take it one step at a time and observe, enjoy, and critique the process. Pretty simple.....
