Hopefully Chaim’s greatest contribution to the Cardinals is selection and development in house. FA acquisitions are necessary but only viable when most needs are filled in house.
Again, I hope they take another college JJ type player (but with power) at #5.
Those Palm Beach pitchers were really good last season. The team was 83-47, mainly because of the pitching.

Re: I’m happy where the Cardinals are
Yes Palm Beach was incredible last year. Very good pitching but pretty darned good position players too. It sure helped to have a ringer like Matthews who could give you six or seven quality innings virtually every outing. Hopefully Peoria and Springfield will benefit further this year. Won’t be surprised to see Mathews in St Louis at some point in ‘25. 2 or 3 more of his kind of input on the farm could turn the whole program around.Cranny wrote: ↑18 Mar 2025 10:22 amI wonder if Chaim is going to be deeply involved in the draft.hugeCardfan wrote: ↑18 Mar 2025 09:54 amI can live with a near sure thing bat, but wouldn’t mind a starter arm only a year or two out. I think our draft is in pretty good shape. Chaim should, IMO, focus on augmenting draft with international signings and getting the kids thru the farm as effectively and efficiently as possible.

I think the Brewer organization is currently the best in the Central. They do a bang up job developing pitching. Will be interesting to see how they react to the loss of Adames and their closer.YNWA2016 wrote: ↑17 Mar 2025 17:11 pm well that is something to look forward to
and hope some new players rise up and we have some new stars besides Winn in the making. that would be great
but I feel like we will be challenging the Pirates for last place in the division this year. I think both the Cubs and Reds are going to surpass us. the Reds now have Francona matched with all that young talent. I will be shocked if the Cards finish above them. Still think Brewers are the fav though
Pirates rotation is as good as anybody’s in the Central. How we fare in the Central will have a lot to do with how long it takes us to gel as a team. Can Walker step up? Will Burleson follow up with more improvement. Will Scott II become the impact player we need in the outfield. A lot of this has greater ramifications a year or two down the road.
Re: I’m happy where the Cardinals are
But more importantly, what is the average time to develop your top prospects that should turn into true impact players. Almost almost all the Hall of Famer’s got started younger than the average MLB debutCranny wrote: ↑18 Mar 2025 10:42 amI believe it’s about 5 years for a high school draftee and about 3 years for a college draftee.OldRed wrote: ↑18 Mar 2025 10:27 amWhat is the average timeline to develop draft picks?Cranny wrote: ↑18 Mar 2025 10:22 amI wonder if Chaim is going to be deeply involved in the draft.hugeCardfan wrote: ↑18 Mar 2025 09:54 amI can live with a near sure thing bat, but wouldn’t mind a starter arm only a year or two out. I was referring to impact players timeline after being drafted. Question: who was the last impact player the Cardinals drafted?Cranny wrote: ↑18 Mar 2025 10:42 amI believe it’s about 5 years for a high school draftee and about 3 years for a college draftee.OldRed wrote: ↑18 Mar 2025 10:27 amWhat is the average timeline to develop draft picks?Cranny wrote: ↑18 Mar 2025 10:22 amI wonder if Chaim is going to be deeply involved in the draft.hugeCardfan wrote: ↑18 Mar 2025 09:54 amI can live with a near sure thing bat, but wouldn’t mind a starter arm only a year or two out. I believe Mathews will be an impact player. Perhaps Hence and Roby too. On the position player side, I believe Gorman, Walker, and Herrera can be impact players, and among the minor leaguers Wetherholt, Chase Davis and Jimmy Crooks have a shot at it.

Listening to Brad today I've got us winning 110 games.

Re: I’m happy where the Cardinals are
It is encouraging to see starters giving us six quality innings as we get closer to opening day. Staying healthy will be key, but there are prospects ready to step forward, when necessary. The pen looks as good or better than last. Today was a good offensive day. Even without Goldy I expect we”ll score more runs than last year and relinquish fewer.
Matz healthy would be significant this year. Helsley will be key going forward. If we are in the mix, I don’t expect a DT. Would be more inclined to think that a QO is proffered and negotiations be underway for extension.
If Scott II finds traction and Noot stays healthy offense may flourish. Offensively, Contreras is key. Wouldn’t be surprised if Baker generates over 20 HR’s. The Cards are due some good offensive surprises.

Yep, if Bloom can produce 1/2 the talent Mo has produced recently (JJ, MATHEWS, WINN, WALKER, CROOKS, WALKER, NOOTBAAR, DONOVAN, MCGREEVY, HENCE, GRACEFFO, BURLESON, BERNAL, ET AL) Cardinals will have a great future.hugeCardfan wrote: ↑18 Mar 2025 10:58 amYes Palm Beach was incredible last year. Sidenote: Anyone thinking we will miss Goldy's '24 production, didn't watch the games.

Jared Jones and Mitch Keller are solid starters. Plus Bubba Chandler not far away.An Old Friend wrote: ↑20 Mar 2025 08:51 amThe Pirates rotation? Keller is fine, Heaney is whatever. Bailey Falter and Carmen Mldozinksi (I think that's who they're trying to stretch out) are 'meh'.
Yeah, Chandler looks good... but they held Skenes back, I'm expecting the same sort of handling of Chandler.
