Marmol said Monday that the club is discussing using a six-man rotation
Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Monday that the club is discussing using a six-man rotation to begin the season, with McGreevy serving as the sixth starter, John Denton of MLB.com reports.
Utilizing a six-man rotation would add a spot for McGreevy, who could swing back-and-forth between starting and relieving, per Denton. Utilizing a six-man rotation would add a spot for McGreevy, who could swing back-and-forth between starting and relieving, per Denton.
That's one way to keep McGreevy.

Please don't screw with McGreevy

Re: Marmol said Monday that the club is discussing using a six-man rotation
When they finally push Matz to the bullpen, the 6-man also opens a spot for Libby to start ... and answer the question.
They also should've traded Fedde and opened a spot. What they should do and what they do are 2 different things.

Does this mean it’s Matz and Mik. Instead of five and jettison one, they add a slot to each nclude both.

Re: Marmol said Monday that the club is discussing using a six-man rotation
With a day off per week to start the season, this means one start per week each, or once every 7 days. That's too long to get a starting pitcher into a rhythm for the year. Stop screwing around and just pick the 5 starters to go with. He risks screwing up everybody because he can't make a damned decision.
Re: Marmol said Monday that the club is discussing using a six-man rotation
A person would think that, either Fedde or Matz or both could be dealt before opening day, opening up spots for McGreevy and Liberatore, but as I’ve said before, they just don’t do anything that would make sense to do. Anything that makes good sense to most of us fans, isn’t even on their radar! It’s just ridiculous how warped their thinking and strategies are!
Re: Marmol said Monday that the club is discussing using a six-man rotation
On the other hand, depending on how long they do it, it wouldn’t be the worst thing. Our top 3 starters would go againstBrummerStealsHome wrote: ↑17 Mar 2025 11:15 am With a day off per week to start the season, this means one start per week each, or once every 7 days. of course that’s a good thing only if they aligned the top 3 starters right and the bottom 3 starters right. If it’s Gray-Mikolas-Matz top 3 to open, it would be terrible.

I hear you, but this is not a video game or Strat-O-Matic, but a game played by real men played on real grass. Broadly speaking, the best interval for the major league starting pitcher is 5 days. I want our starters to be at their best no matter the opponent.Futuregm2 wrote: ↑17 Mar 2025 11:26 amOn the other hand, depending on how long they do it, it wouldn’t be the worst thing. Also to start the season you have lower pitch counts to get guys acclimated.
If that limits guys to 4 innings by going with 6 starters not sure the BP can hold up??

If he's a starter, let him start. If he's a reliever, let him relieve.wkycards wrote: ↑17 Mar 2025 10:57 am Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Monday that the club is discussing using a six-man rotation to begin the season, with McGreevy serving as the sixth starter, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

That's one way to keep McGreevy.

Why do we keep mucking with our young players?
Can't wait for Oli to be gone! I'm betting big money this is his last season as an mlb manager!

Re: Marmol said Monday that the club is discussing using a six-man rotation
If they refuse to move Matz, then a 6 man rotation is the way to go. McGreevy has to be in the rotation. I disagree with splitting him between rotation/pen. We've already seen them screw up guys like Liberatore, Z. Thompson, etc. (Maybe C. Martinez and A. Reyes going farther back). Please don't do this to another promising starter.wkycards wrote: ↑17 Mar 2025 10:57 am Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Monday that the club is discussing using a six-man rotation to begin the season, with McGreevy serving as the sixth starter, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Re: Marmol said Monday that the club is discussing using a six-man rotation
When starters actually went 6-7+ innings I was completely against the 6 -man.
But starting the last few years, with starters barely getting past the 5th inning, I've warned up to it.
Gray
Fedde
Pallante
Mikolas
Matz
McGreevey
Push them deeper into games since they have an extra days rest.

There is zero chance The Marrmot would do that.rockondlouie wrote: ↑17 Mar 2025 13:12 pm When starters actually went 6-7+ innings I was completely against the 6 -man.

Not a fan of a 6-man rotation.wkycards wrote: ↑17 Mar 2025 10:57 am Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Monday that the club is discussing using a six-man rotation to begin the season, with McGreevy serving as the sixth starter, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

But, I do like this idea.
It allows McGreevy and Pallante to remain in the rotation, while letting Mikolas, Matz, and Fedde establish and demonstrate trade value to other teams.
