Best part of the night was 'Flow' winning for Best Animated Feature. A movie with no dialogue, made with free, publicly available animation software beats a Dreamworks film. This was the only result I was rooting for knowing that Dune 2 had already been/was going to be snubbed.

Conan was a serviceable host. The Sandler bit was funny. Could have used some more absurdity like Shai-Hulud playing Chopsticks but I know that wouldn't fly on an Oscars broadcast. The opening bit of him crawling out of Demi Moore was too easy of a joke. I always cringe when I see people still doing that Waynes-world, we're not worthy bow like he did with the firefighters. Seems so outdated like saying "NOT" after an intentionally wrong statement.

All in all, It was another year of nominated movies that the majority of people will forget about or have no desire to see more than once (with some exceptions like Dune 2, Flow, and a few of the International flicks)

Brody's speech is the embodiment of why people hate actors. He also waved off the orchestra when he won for The Pianist years ago and spoke way too long about the role of art in fighting all the blah blah 'isms and injustices around the world. Smug is off the charts. Definite successor to Sean Penn for president of Film Actors Guild.

On the plus side, he does come across as the type of guy who might get really bothered if upon meeting him you said something like, "Oh yeah, aren't you that acting guy who can't ever win awards unless you play a Holocaust survivor?"

Dude, totally. Ben Stiller lampooned the oscar-bait role in Tropic Thunder.

My expectations were very low, given the overall mood in disaster-struck L.A.; so many obscure movies; movie theaters barely surviving; and a first-time host.

Yet, I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed the entire show, even though it was --- as always --- way too long, with too many production numbers that took up all the time the elimination (thank god) of Best Song performances was supposed to save time on. Why, exactly, was there a production number about James Bond??? Please don't tell me it's just because Amazon just bought the franchise.

I loved Conan's zinger about "Anora" being so popular because we're so desperate for someone to actually stand up to a Russian strongman.

I'm really glad now I went out yesterday to see "Anora" just hours before the Oscars!

I wonder how many people watched the Oscars on Hulu....they're probably cancelling their membership today.

From what I read in one of my coastal newspapers, Hulu cut out of the program right before the Best Actress crowning, then also missed the Best Picture award. Their screens showed the message reading “Thank you for watching; the live event has now ended”. Apparently, the Hulu tech bros had set their algorithm to pull out of the Oscars at the 3:30 mark. Obviously, they'd never watch the Oscars before. This one ran about 3:45, in part due to Conan's production piece about not wasting our time, and Kieren Culkin's family-planning dissertation.

One wonders if Hulu viewers were initially wondering if David Chase was behind the sudden pullout right before the show's climax.

Just think what those tech bros behind this snafu*** might do once they get hold of the Treasury Department's payouts.

I'm sad about Moore, but MM is worthy.

Anora is a better movie than Conclave, so I'm happy about that split. Five Oscars is ridiculous, but there is a truly great movie in Anora. If only Baker had edited it with the discipline that he showed with Tangerines.

It had not occurred to me until he was accepting his Oscar for Best Editing tonight that the director of Anora was also the editor.

Boy...that scans.

Baker is the first person in history to personally win 4 Academy Awards on the same night. He was also a producer, so he got a statuette for Best Picture as well.

Brody came across as extremely self important. I kinda hate that he can now call himself a 2 time Oscar winner. Preventing that outcome should have been reason enough to give it to Timmy - that level of ego should never be rewarded.

There are actually 45 people who have won at least two acting Oscars, and a lot of them just in the last 35 years - Emma Stone became a two time winner just last year. Only three people have ever won three or more Academy Awards for Best Actor/Actress - Katharine Hepburn, Daniel Day-Lewis, and Frances McDormand. The gap between Hepburn's first and last Best Actress wins is 48 years; Day-Lewis wins were spread over 23 years; and McDormand wins were spread over 24 years.

Someone please tell me what Brody‘s speech was about. I refuse to listen to a six minute diatribe from the Hollywood elite. I’m not hearing anything about the content of his speech. I’m just hearing about how long it was, and how presumptuous he was in giving it.

I was vaguely interested in watching Anora until I heard the director also made The Florida Project. Unlike Clark, I REALLY liked that little film. So now I will make a big effort to watch Anora.

Oh c’mon, don’t dis Kieran’s funny little speech. Very cute. I don’t watch Oscars, but I watch the talked about clips and his was probably the only thing entertaining in that entire show, well that and Mick Jagger strolling on stage to give his usual elegant presentation.

That's the thing: Brody had nothing interesting to say. Just the usual thanks to so-and-so and how important it is to tell a story like this in these times, and so on. It was just long-form narcissism.

Earlier in the evening, Kieran Culkin went and and on, but he got off a very funny story about his wife. She told him last year when he won an Emmy that she wasn't having a 4th child with him unless he won an Oscar.

Maybe I saw a clips of the tail end of Kieren’s speech then because I only heard the story about his wife owing him a fourth child

I'm just befuddled why, after 97 Oscars ceremonies, the nominees and/or their agents so rarely take 30 minutes days before the telecast to put together a cogent, concise acceptance speech.....then read it in the office with a stopwatch running. And be sure to have the speech on paper in your hand when your awards category comes up.
