Both Walker and Gorman have higher ceilings --- Burleson may have a higher floor. This is the year to find out.

Well into Stage III, bordering on IV, the hysterical meltdown. Then a return a few days later with false contrition and promises to change, i.e., Stage I. Around and around we go.Drewman+ wrote: ↑30 Jan 2025 17:26 pmSomeone recently defined the normal pattern mable exhibits prior to a full meltdown. (Mort?) You can just sense the ban percolating.
It will be glorious

I'm really pulling for Burleson to put up a full year that was close to his first half of 24. The guy was putting up all star numbers for about 8 weeks straight until he had the biggest power outage I've ever seen.

Meh, it was just one bad month (September). He had 3 HRs in August, same as May and more than Mar/April (2).blackinkbiz wrote: ↑30 Jan 2025 23:32 pmI'm really pulling for Burleson to put up a full year that was close to his first half of 24. His power outage wasn’t like Rutschman’s last year

The Bison is a platoon player who can't hit LHP (career: 209 .244 .288 .533).
Gorman, in 2023, slashed .260 .361 .480 .840 vs LHP showing he'd not a platoon player and when right can hit well above average vs LHP.
Of course he regressed badly in 2024, slashing .200 .257 .362 .619 vs LHP which was still superior to the Bison's .196 .229 .286 .514!
Bison is a trade candidate.
With WillyC at 1st base, possibly Gorman at DH if NADO is here, Burleson has no spot on the team (he's NOT an OF'er).

Driving in 78 runs in 595 PA isn't really anything to brag about.
Burleson was productive in 2024, but Shady is talking like he had some 'Oneill-2021-like' breakout year.
Put it this way: If Gorman and Walker have years EXACTLY like AB's 2024, it will be a disappointment. And if AB has another season exactly like 2024, it will solidify the idea that maybe AB is another Matt Adams---a very flawed hitter who will give you an exciting 6 weeks every year.

Put it this way. We shouldn't feed strays like Shady, Hardmaple, Wally Butterworth Robert Shelton, Buttercup, Sanusual6, etc. This will be a long season.ecleme22 wrote: ↑31 Jan 2025 08:59 am Driving in 78 runs in 595 PA isn't really anything to brag about.

He/they will make it worse.

Obviously, it's imperative that Walker and Gorman demonstrate the lofty goals the Cardinals had/have for them. However, it will be almost as important for Burleson to return to the All Star caliber production he had the first half of '24. He was really good. How soon some forget that.
Re: It seems most posters feel Walker and Gorman will be more productive than Burleson
He had 2 great months. 45 of his 78 RBI came in June and July. In the other 4 months he had RBI totals of 10, 8, 9, and 6. Gorman sucked last year and then got sent down and he actually had more 10+ RBI months (4) than Burleson (3).Shady wrote: ↑31 Jan 2025 09:19 am Obviously, it's imperative that Walker and Gorman demonstrate the lofty goals the Cardinals had/have for them. That's exactly my point. "it will be almost as important for Burleson to return to the All Star caliber production he had the first half of '24". It will be fascinating to see how all three produce in '25. Walker, Gorman and Burleson.Futuregm2 wrote: ↑31 Jan 2025 09:24 amHe had 2 great months. 45 of his 78 RBI came in June and July.
