celebrating the series win vs Cubbies. Have expectations grown so grand that even a series over the Cubbies is taken for granted?

Some aren’t. Some aren’t happy they spent the offseason whining and crying with doom and gloom predictions that stupid bloom had built a 90-100 loss team when they realized that was a dumb prediction and they were wrong they now shift it to whining and crying and saying that if they spent more money they could be a World Series team lol they have done a complete .180 so they could maintain whining and crying about bloomhugeCardfan wrote: ↑16 Aug 2026 21:49 pm celebrating the series win vs Cubbies. Yes, I thought it was a great series! We took 2 of 3 from the cubbies at Wrigley AND we saw history!

Beyond this series I'm happy to see the outline of a contender. After the lockout sign a TOR starter, an average stopgap 3B, and a couple relievers and get playoff experience next year.hugeCardfan wrote: ↑16 Aug 2026 21:49 pm celebrating the series win vs Cubbies. Put me in the corner with the others that are tickled pink that the Cardinals gave the Cubs more than they could handle this weekend. I’m sure impatient about waiting for the future of this team BUT it was definitely an enjoyable weekend.

We have two players that will get 100 rbi. We have three starters that have been way better than advertised. The top 4 might be the best top four in the game. Along with Weatherholt and now Baez busting on the scene. Series wins against the Yankees,Phillies and now Cubs show they are heading in the right direction. There is a lot to be excited for. The problem is so many are stuck in the past and how they want things to be right now.

Yes, it really is a shame adults didn’t flock to stltoday on the last Sunday evening before teachers report back to post about winning 2/3 in Chicago.
Why could this be? This club is 9th in the NL and 8.5 behind the Cubs. Sure, they are now 7-6 against the 2026 Cubs and 3.5 GB of the Wildcard, but let’s not act like the Cardinals didn’t just sell 3 of the last 4 Deadlines.
Even the one they bought sent Tommy Edman to LA for Erick Fedde & Tommy Pham.
I’m stoked they won the series, especially their performance the last 2 Games. They could have a compelling end to the season. That is also exciting. Again, we’re in the middle of August and enthusiasm is tempered.
I went to 2 games last week at Busch III. Both were winners (Colorado 7-4, Phillie 7-1). The stadium was largely empty, and Philadelphia was receiving noticeable cheats early on in that game. This club has a long way to go before they convince the fans to get excited about winning an August series in Chicago.
They’re moving in the right direction. Walker winning the Home Run Derby & Baez having a historic performance certainly helps. However, this club simply needs more positive headlines (JJ ROY, Stud FA Signing), but selling in the offseason and deadlines, and the looming MLB Circus this offseason with the Lockout is a lot to overcome.

Guys on Baseball Tonight or whatever they call the Quick Pitch alternative were talking about how strong our middle of the order could be going forward.

More importantly they have won 4 series in a row, including 3 of them being over the Yankees, Phillies, and Cubs. Keep it going, you never know.hugeCardfan wrote: ↑16 Aug 2026 21:49 pm celebrating the series win vs Cubbies. And like it or not Burleson is the glue for that middle order potential.
Won't go into lengthy slumps, is the veteran of the group although only 27 and has the best bat to ball skills.
And some misinformed folks here still believe he should be traded.

Burly- consistent effort offense and defense. He makes a mistake occasionally but also pulls in a lot of bad throws. Seems to have a great attitude and like a team leader. Cause for hope going forward. Of course at the right price anyone can go but luckily nobody offered that deal.11WSChamps wrote: ↑17 Aug 2026 08:29 amAnd like it or not Burleson is the glue for that middle order potential.

A lot of folks talked about it for a few hours in the GDT.
Do we get extra brownie points for talking about it again?
Of course its always sweet beating the Cubs especially when it means something.
I mentioned during the game with 5 games in Cincinnati this could be the start of a run with this momentum.

Yes it could and just think if they had a 3rd baseman with power. I believe in time Crooks will show some power.
