BY ANTHONY FRANCO | AT JULY 29, 2026 10:40PM CDT

The Cubs have made no secret of their desire to add starting pitching and are at least checking in on the top of the market. Patrick Mooney of The Athletic reports that the Cubs have considered making a push for Tarik Skubal among their various rotation possibilities.

Well, he will be only 30 so I believe he has a chance to be worth his contract similar to Scherzer. But the going rate might be more than 7 years at this point don't you think. It's going to be 9-10 years, no?

I actually hope they trade a haul for him. Bankrupt their farm system. Then I hope they sign him to a 9 year BIG $$$ contract. That dude's elbow is about to blow out. He could set that sh!tbag franchise back years!

Cole was 9/$324

IMO, Skubal is less likely to fulfill that contract than Cole was.

Exactly. Detroit should go ahead and drain their farm system and watch him sign with the Dodgers. Ditto if the Brewers jump in on Skubal.

Teams may not give him term.
He'll get paid, not confident that he'll get
term and he could lose 2027.
