Time to get Burly wrapped up for years to come. He is clearly our best hitter.

Hes 5th in the majors in RBI, and has been hitting lefties pretty good as of late. You dont think they can use that kind of offense?Adam2 wrote: ↑26 Jul 2026 16:48 pmShouldn't wrap up a hitter who cant hit leftiesAce Hollister wrote: ↑26 Jul 2026 16:46 pm Time to get Burly wrapped up for years to come. Because of his present life BA vs lefties NOW is the time to extend him. Get the bargain price before he figures lefties completely. Similar to why I was preaching to extend Waljer LAST year. Just had too much potential and would have come cheap.

I agree with OP. Burly is part of our offense....such as it is. And, he hits LH pitching fairly well.

Re: Burly Extension
I think the problem with extending Burleson is age, position and state of the team.Ace Hollister wrote: ↑26 Jul 2026 16:46 pm Time to get Burly wrapped up for years to come. He is clearly our best hitter.
By time this team is competitive Burly would be getting very expensive.
I like him. I’m just seeing his age as a factor and his upcoming pay checks as a problem.
He’s nowhere near an elite first basemen. Average would be being kind in my opinion. Every time the two knuckleheads in the broadcast booth shout for joy when Burleson scoops one out of the dirt makes me cringe. A major league first baseman should be able to catch a ball that bounces in the dirt.
I just don’t see an extension coming his way.

Re: Burly Extension
That's probably similar to what the Mariners were thinking when they extended Josh Naylor for his ages 29-33 seasons last year . . .Ace Hollister wrote: ↑26 Jul 2026 16:46 pm Time to get Burly wrapped up for years to come. He is clearly our best hitter.

Re: Burly Extension
No. Trade him
Recency bias of a couple of hits vs LH pitching doesn't change that he's a defensive liability and doesn't hit lefties. He's aged out for the Cards moving forward

Re: Burly Extension
The problem (if it is a problem) with Burleson is we view/use him as our best hitter or best RBI guy. We shouldn’t be moving him but adding on to him. What we need is a true MOTO hitter, then we could use Burleson where he needs to be. What if we hit Burly second or could afford to hit him fifth or sixth in the order where he truly should be.
We are asking Burleson to carry a lot of the water for us, Walker too. I’m not dragging them down but trying to help them. Add a true MOTO bat to this lineup, lengthen it some, and I believe it would help both Burleson and Walker. I’m grateful that both of these guys are going to flirt with 100 RBIs this year but help these two by lengthening the order.
Lastly, let’s get over platooning Burleson. I know he has had some struggles with LHP but let him work that out. He’s a pure hitter and he will make adjustments. Sitting him against LHP just feeds into the idea that he can’t hit lefties.

He’s a platoon guy.
I’m for extending him if it’s not for a lot of money.

I mean he came in to today with a .493 OPS vs LHP’s. That’s only 50 points higher than it was at its low I think, and that is an incredibly low bar to set. He’s still abysmal vs LHP’s.RamFan08NY wrote: ↑26 Jul 2026 17:15 pmHes 5th in the majors in RBI, and has been hitting lefties pretty good as of late. He was 3-5 today and passed Walker in BA. He's improving defensively and he's 28 years old. I don't see the problem giving him a 3-5 year contract.

Re: Burly Extension
And hes still one of the best run producers in the entire MLB. Do you throw that away because he doesn't hit LH as well as RH pitching? Ill take the run production over OPS every day.Futuregm2 wrote: ↑26 Jul 2026 18:08 pmI mean he came in to today with a .493 OPS vs LHP’s. Re: Burly Extension
Does he have two more years after this where he is eligible for arbitration? I get confused on how that works.
I like him as a player but it seems his age is sort of an issue. He might should be traded.
