It would actually be a good pickup if Bloom trades 2 or more starters at the DL

Meh, I wouldn't. He hasn't been an effective MLB pitcher since 2022. Only benefit might be innings if we have pitchers who we need to limit innings for.

They traded Prince Fielder's son in that deal, too. My guess is they were just wanting Colton Gordon and took McCullers because they had to.

The Cardinals would only be responsible for the prorated minimum so the cost isn’t much. The Brewers after acquiring him obviously didn’t like what they saw.

I guess when I look at this, it’s certainly no different than recycling the likes of Roycroft, Fernandez, Shuster etc. McCullers has gone through his share of injuries lately but was effective at one time. As long as the cost is minimal what’s the objection.

Sure, he'd be a good candidate for Dave Duncan to work his magic on

I agree with you totally. If they end up trading someone (and instead of rushing someone from AAA) bring him aboard to finish out the season.

agreed. im not sure what the upside is here. it was over 4 years ago since he was good.

may worked because he had good numbers usually but had problems getting healthy so we could gamble into turninghim into an asset.

mccollers jr is too far gone niw. and even if we couldnturn him around, we arent gettinganything for him at deadline.

and say he dies turn around and pitch well in september for this rebuilding team.... then he... just walks away in free agency? so what did we actually gain.

he makes more sense as a offseason reclamation project to turn into trade deadline asset than trying to turn him around just before he gets free agency anyway

I forgot that he missed BOTH 2023/2024 with injuries.
I’d probably pass.
Makes more sense to give a LOOK to Dobbins/Mathews/Mautz!

Why not

If nothing else he could be better than a few of the BP arms

No

He’s finished

and has been for a good while.

That deal was always about the crew getting Gordon and the Stros clearing payroll

Cards should not waste a roster spot…

I'd rather have his Dad in his prime, he was a solid RP!

What you gain is potentially covering innings if Bloom trades two or more starters at the deadline.
