Oli

Post by JuanAgosto »

As you all know, I have written multiple posts bashing Oli over the past few years. Today, I am writing to commend him on a good start to the 2026 season.

Oli has done a great job of allowing this team to have fun and mesh together. His lineups have been good. I take no issue with his pitching changes. And the team has played exciting, strong fundamental baseball.

Oli seems more relaxed and engaged this season. Its almost as if he feels like he is actually the manager and leader. Maybe its the young roster sans veterans. Maybe its the front office change. Whatever it is, its fun.

Nice job, Oli. You deserve kudos.

I think he still uses more pitchers per game than is necessary.

Otherwise I agree with you, and the team certainly is playing hard for him.

Good post!
The Manager is always fair game and hindsight as we all know is 20/20.
Hey I remember TLR catching a lot of flak and he was a hall of famer.
In many cases the Manager can’t win.
Team loses- he gets blame for the team underperforming.
Team wins- they won because of the talent not him.
I have always rated him as a below average Manager.
But.... most of that is solely based on his in-game decision making.
In fairness I know nothing about what he does behind the scenes!
Obviously I’m pulling for him and his 2026 decision making so far has been improved.

Oli's annoying habits:

1) Rewarding hitters who have a big game with a day off
2) OCD fixation on L/R/L/R lineup order
3) Using too many pitchers

1 seems is ok for now, but it's only May
2 is also as bad as ever, but Walker's success steadies things
3 is worse than ever. If at breakfast, the coach writes Dustin May is going 6 innings, it doesn't matter if May is only at 80 pitches in the 6th--in comes Stank. This is going to cost them as the summer rolls on. And we know it's not going to stop. It's in his blood.

You forgot #4. The team is winning.

All managers are going to do things that make you nuts. TLR was a legendary manager and you STILL have people who can't acknowledge that he was good.

I think Oli has been better than people have given him credit for. Not saying he's great, but I'd say he's fine.

I'm an Oli defender on here, but I do agree with people who don't like his bullpen management. It does seem pretty rote this year, and I thought he did an amazing job of managing the bullpen last year. Seems less so than this year.

But then again, the team as a whole is winning. So who am I to say?

The line-up L/R/L/R thing annoys me, but I also have to admit that the hitting has been WAAAAY better than I thought it would be.

He's still learning.

You don't just give away that development time the Cards have in him.

This post seems like it could not have worse timing

Even the shirtless teenagers in right field knew Libby was gassed and Oli waits until he blows the lead to pull him

Like its unbelievable and Graceffo out of the inning in 1 pitch

Meanwhile there is a pages long thread full of people upset that he takes starters out too early.
