The video content says that the Blues overpaid for an unproven young defenseman, and they did so because they are in desperate need. Their defensive core are old, etc.

Just more smoke alarms going off inside Army's house.

I wouldn't put too much stock in the opinion of Michael Ogello. He seems to hate the Blues and his knowledge of Toronto was so extensive they dropped him.

every defensemen in the top 4 is over the age over 30? interesting isn't broberg in the top 4? Woof these guys are brutal. Fowler and Parayko are only guys currently on roster over the age of 30. Holl replaced Faulk so at no point did the Blues have 4 guys on roster over the age of 30. In fact they had

Broberg/LM/Kessel/Tucker under contract playing, their average age is 24.5 Include the whole starting roster of D the average age was 28.2

What a joke.

All agreed. Some of this is off the mark.

I would only add, however, that some of what they said is applicable in general.

Have the Blues overpaid for other lead team members? Hmmm. Let's consider Kyrou and Buchnevich salary and contracts! My summation of the situation is this... Look across the NHL. The core/lead players on each team are paid exceptionally well. This is sort of a built-in, guaranteed situation based on agents doing what agents do.

Moral of the story:
Your BEST guys will be paid exceptionally well for long terms. That is guaranteed. These players better be truly NHL elite, or they will be seriously overpaid. Look no further than Kyrou and Buchnevich for examples. And maybe now even Broberg. Army has not picked high in the draft for almost 20 years. This means that the Blues a HIGHLY-PRONE to OVER-PAYING for weaker elite talent. So next time, maybe lose a few more games in March in Arpril--for the sake of not overpaying the Kyrous.

I'm not saying that Broberg is not elite. I'm not saying that Broberg is overpaid. My primary comment is not about Broberg.

I'm saying that it is exceptionally costly in many ways to place the elite label on the wrong roster players. How many more days of soak do we need to see if that statement ages well? It's been a little over a year since our elite Buchnevich has looked overpaid.

Regarding Broberg... Yes, he is the best that the Blues have. However, how does he compare to other top-pair defenseman currently and next year this time? Hopefully, Broberg will look like a "steal". I hope that he does.

And sometimes elite talent is severely underpaid. Consider 1C ASOGG. :)

I think that it is worth noting ONE THING...

There is not one BluesTalker that committed to saying that Broberg will be elite. Hmmm. What does that mean?

My answer:
None of us know if Broberg is really elite yet. Army has gambled that Broberg will be elite for many years. We hope that he is right. That's all we know right now.

If not for Broberg, we’d be seriously hosed on defense. Army pulled off the greatest heist the Oilers have ever seen.

Not to derail your awesome post that talks about really important stuff....
But IMO...anyone who has a choice, and picks a hot dog over a brat is an idiot.

Give me a sandwhich today...choice comes down to legrand legend, Goia's hot italian trio, or union loafer Roast beef bistro...first world problems...
