Very impressive accomplishment for a 19 yr old. He likely won’t play a lot as the 3rd string goalie but it’ll still be a great experience for him. He’s had a fantastic season, especially for a 6th rd pick. He’s a legit prospect now.

The Blues had gone several years without drafting a goalie until picking Harenstam. Unless I'm missing someone, they hadn't picked one since 2019 when they picked both Ellis and Zherenko. So it's awfully encouraging to see the early returns with Harenstam, not to mention the trade for Gidlof.

But yes, we definitely need to start restocking that particular cupboard. Love and Gandolf are a decent start but we could still use more IMO.

kimzey, yes I totally forgot about Cranley (understandable!). More importantly, Gidlof will forever more now be known as Gandolf!

with the run the Tbirds goalie is going on. Did they luck out with a bridge backup until Harenstam is 21-22? Hofer is going to command a 7ish mil contract. It would be nice to be able to have a strong 1 goalie looking to push themselves, while we have that 2nd that should have been Ellis job keeping the goalie cost down.

Romanov will be a UFA this summer so tbd if the Blues will keep him.

And while Romanov is currently on a hot streak, I wouldn’t be ready to basically hand him the NHL backup job based on his overall body of work. I’d be comfortable with him returning as the #3 guy in the org though. He was #4 on the depth chart and recently and 3 weeks ago but then stole the starters role from Zherenko. Zherenko started the first game of the playoffs, allowed 4 goals in the 1st period and was pulled. Cranley was the backup that night and allowed another 4 goals. 8-1 loss to open the playoffs…in a 3 game series so one more loss and they would’ve been done. Romanov started Game 2 of that series and we know the rest. He’s now 5-1 in the playoffs and on an absolute heater.

I don’t see a likely NHLer in him though.

Yes, Ellis would’ve likely been an excellent option to be the backup and would’ve made me more comfortable trading Binny if we wanted to but unfortunately, Buffalo stole him.
