Bad news, Brewers and Reds win, Bucs up 10-1 late.

It's a long season.

A 'hot winning streak' gets some fans /posters thinking the team is the greatest thing since slice bread. Case in point, the Milwaukee Brewers had that 14 game win streak prompting local George Webb to give away free burgers. Brewer fans felt the team was finally going to get their first World Series championship. They won more games than the Dodgers. They did end up with 97 wins but after disptaching the Cubs in divisional round, the team faced the Dodgers in NLCS and were defeated in 4 straight games. Not only lost all four , but scored 1 run in each and every game. 4 runs in 4 games !! Had their own fans questioning how good a team they were in October.

'Long losing streaks' have the opposite effect. Fans/posters feel they are much worse than they actually are. A team could lose 6 one-run games in a row with a few on bad breaks yet the total effect of continually losing those games makes fans think they are a terrible team.

It works both ways. The Cubs had a fine 10-game streak and have had Wrigley fans going nuts for they see them winning so many games LIVE in front of them . When these same Cub fans watch their Cubbies on TV for away games , they see a far different team.. 9 wins -8 losses . barely over .500 ballclub. They don't look like the world beaters then.

Well let’s be fair. Two 10 game winning streaks in first forty games has happened three times, last time, 71 years ago.

Also they went 20-3. And best record in baseball. I’ll bet this- the Cubs are the team to beat in the Central.

You think I jinxed them? That would be good, otherwise they will be formidable.

Agree with you that the Cubs are the team to beat in the NL Central as they made acquistions to bolster their team for 2026 after disappointing not overtaking the Brewers last year. The pressure was on to beat out their rivals to the North. There is a special rivalry between the two towns due to their proximity.
In fact, a couple years ago many Cub fans who found it difficult to secure good seats at Wrigley would buy huge chunks of tix for Cubs @ Brewers games ( Wrigley to AmFam Field 90 min. 1 1/2 hr. drive ) If Cub fan lives north suburbs even less miles. They would have so many Cub fans in the stands , it was getting the nickname Wrigley Field North by the Cubby radio talk shows. A year ago when playoffs were held, the Brewers purposely were not taking postseason ticket requests from Illinois addresses. To get around that , Cubby fans who had friends across the Wis/Ill border in Kenosha , Racine, and possibly Milwaukee would have those friends apply for the tix to hide the fact that a Cub fan was actually going to get the tix.
As everyone has learned the past half dozen years, never discount the Brewers in the NL Central . Last year , they won the division and Cubs got a wildcard spot. After Cubs won the wildcard round, the Brewers / Cubs faced each other in Divisional Round with it going the full 5 games .. Brewers winning the series 3-2 at Home.
Sure hope the Cardinals could get a wildcard spot but if they do not and we have a reverse of last year .. with Cubs this time winning the division and Brewers in WC spot, the two could possibly meet again. If they did a repeat series with Cubs division winner, the Cubbies would get home field advantage in the best of 5. That would be quite the intense series ! Big $$$ to get tix for those games on the secondary market .

Yes the cubs are off to a red hot start. Keep in mind that they have benefitted from a lot of home games, where they are 18-5. They are barely over .500 on the road: 9-8. More road games in the future, where they are less successful.

I did pick them to win the NL Central this season, but I did not expect the Cardinals to be as competitive as they currently are. Maybe the Cards can derail this small bear train when they finally get to play them......

Also not to mention that some of those games, especially the Reds games were heavily tilted by Cincy forgetting the rules of my baseball and whiffing easy plays.

small bears come up small again today in Texas. Shut out for the second consecutive game, this time by DeGrom and Latz. They only had 3 hits, no walks, and struck out 11 times. Now just 9-9 on the road.
