When is Doyle’s next start ?

Post by ramfandan »

He pitched May 2nd.. they usually pitch on 5-day rotation.
Doyle had good last outing going 4.1 innings ..5 strikeouts
I believe just 1 walk one run and a couple hits.
Anyone with more specifics what pitches he used?

When I watched the start before that he was very much concentrating on the secondary stuff. A slow breaking ball in particular.
It wasn't great but it made the no 1 more effective, and he had some success fooling hitters who were mostly sitting "dead red".

The reason I say the secondary stuff wasn't great was that I felt the delivery differed from the fastball delivery to the point where more advanced hitters would likely not be fooled.

Have to start somewhere though.

I saw 1 slider look like a slider...moved away from the LHB and low. The rest of the sliders missed in and just out of the 2nd quadrant, Upper Left side. He used a curve that ran inside on RH batters, and produced bad contact, usually a pop up. I liked the curve overall, I think it was inadvertently effective. It didn't do exactly what he wanted, but it did keep the RHB honest...it was too slow to be a cutter.

The best singular pitch was that 1 slider that slid...for a K. I think it was probably his only secondary offering that did what he wanted it to do.

5 K's in 4 1/3 IP is good...but not what he was doing at Tennessee...we need 7 or 8 K's in 5 IP....to get that at AA, he'll need the secondary pitches.

---------------

if they go in order from last week..... it's Lin today, Thompson Friday, Doyle Saturday.
