They could be seeing some action for the St Louis Cardinals. Maybe sooner than later.

Mautz pitched 5 good innings, Shuster came in and allowed 4 runs in the 6th. Redbirds down 5-4.
Ledbetter at leadoff today. Scored twice after a hit and a walk.
Baez two hits, an RBI and a run scored. Prieto and Koperniak with RBI hits as well.
Bernal catching today , has one hit so far.
Crooks with the day off.

I can understand why they would have been hesitant to cut someone from the 40 just to take the risk on Velazquez. It's a lot of risk for a guy who you know will likely strikeout 40% or more, along with whatever power you get from him. There's a reason why he's not a full-time MLB player. I like that they've committed to Church-Scott-Walker for now. They'll have enough decisions to make by the time Nootbaar is ready or Baez is ready to come up.

I agree with most of what you say, however, I saw Velazquez play in several games this Spring and he was good. Hit everything hard and only K’d 3 times. It just might be he’s struggling right now, due to being so disappointed by not making the team. I mean he did everything he could and still didn’t make it. That’s a tough pill to swallow.

You may be right. After all, the Cardinals gave him the invite to ST and like you say he did exactly what he needed to do. So anyone would be right to feel like the Cardinals didn't honor the chance they gave him. I guess at the end of the day it comes down to the Cardinals reserving the right to make the decision. I wonder what factors (other players) would have had to go differently for them to have selected Velazquez. Maybe if Gorman struck out 25 times and Walker didn't get hot at the end. Or if they weren't as sold on Church. With Scott, I understand them granting him a pass based on factors other than hitting since his game involves defense and speed at a premium position and with the improvement in his bunting abilities.

After all, Velazquez could have carried his hot hitting right into St Louis only to go cold after a few weeks. Like a Jeremy Hazelbaker (if I'm remembering how that went correctly). The odds that Velazquez would have come up and stayed consistent (and have an Adolis Garcia type of breakout/ascension) are very slim. Still, the chance of it was there enough that the fan disappointment is understandable.

I would rather have Velazquez on the team instead of Urias. Urias is just redundant and not as much of an impact hitter as Velazquez.

That's fair, and would have been an easy decision to make at the end of ST with Gorman looking strong. I've said I think Urias could be traded pretty early. Nice player that should be useful somewhere.

Blewett didn’t blow it, gets the save, as The Redbirds win 6-5. Bernal game winning RBI on a ground ball force out scoring Baez.
Redbirds 3-0.
