Previous heights measured with shoes and ballcaps on.

Interesting. I thought all heights were measured shoeless.

I'm not surprised.

google says
uses Hawk-Eye tracking cameras to define a personalized two-dimensional strike zone for each batter. The zone is measured as 17 inches wide at the center of the plate, with the top set at and the bottom at of the individual batter's height (without cleats).
So if they are taking the time to measure guys, why not measure the actual knee? Wonder what the difference is if you have a long legged 6 foot 1 inch guy, and a short legged long trunked guy of same overall height?

I guess the batting stance has nothing to do with it either?

It takes unmeasurable talent to contrive a process, implement a process, and finally utilize a process and not have all the pertinent information. These are the people who could never work on Mars or lunar mission, great construction projects, or resolving a business crisis.

Sure hope the pizza size bases are still good.

MLB has exceptionally talented players who aren't household names like top NFL and NBA players are. TV rights are a mess and who knows how long the lockout will last after this season. And they are just figuring out players should be measured sans cleats and caps. I get that every sport's fans complain about their commissioner but Manfred is atrocious.
