no quality major league Manager would take the job
“I think this subject is fully addressed now.”
Re: no quality major league Manager would take the job
NO, potential manager, would turn down a job as a MLB manager. Oli is the right guy for the job. The C T Geniuses all expected miracles with an old and under talented roster and the manager is an easy target. People seem to forget that he doesn't hit, pitch nor field...all he can do is put the players on the field.
Re: no quality major league Manager would take the job
I think it would be an appealing job. No playoff expectations for a year or two. Chance to build the team almost from ground up. If I had that plus some commitment about future spending and plans, I would jump at it.
I think Oli is there not because no one else will take the job but because Bloom thinks he is the right guy. Oli’s results are a reflection on Blooms decision.

Re: no quality major league Manager would take the job
The ‘job’ was never vacant so nobody has any idea who or how many would apply for the manager’s position.
There are only 30 positions in the MLB. To get offered any one if those jobs is quite an accomplishment for any basebsll coach .
Many quality people would love to have any of the 30

Yost took KC to two world series and then presided over consecutive 100 loss seasons before stepping down. Can't win without the players. Still for an unemployed manager the lure of a MLB job has to be hard to turn down.

Love all of the marmol defenders all of the sudden. The guy is still a deer in the headlights 3 years in.
Re: no quality major league Manager would take the job
It's a good point without being sarcastic. The impression I've had of Oli is he is company man. And an intricate part of their plan. Also, they could move Oli to another position in the org and bring in another manager as needed. And they could eat the contract, and let him go, as I'm sure the dollar amount is reasonable. Also, I like the idea of a Pujols or Molina manager. But I don't think either would want to begin their career under these circumstances.

Francona took the job in Cincinnati.
When is the last time they spent any money or anywhere near a top tier payroll team?

I've barely watched a Cardinals game in 3 years. They are yesterday's news.dugoutrex wrote: ↑02 Mar 2026 08:59 ammost of us supporting him just love seeing 'you' guys getting bent outta shapeJeff Goldblum wrote: ↑02 Mar 2026 08:46 am Love all of the marmol defenders all of the sudden. Probably for the first time in MLB with a club that is considered one of perennial contenders historically they have manager in place where it doesn’t seem to matter that he wins.
Go back to Whitey-WINNING
Torre- had a couple above .500 clubs with absolutely no support from ownership….didn’t win and was fired
LaRussa- Won the division ‘96, 2000….had a gap in between but was Tony LaRussa. The Marmot is nobody
Wins
93
71
83
78
And more than likely his record the next couple seasons will be under .500. BDW is allowing an absolute nobody to lead the Cardinals to 5 years of terrible Cards baseball.

Yet, many here would give their right arm for Terry Francona, who won a whole 4 more games than Oli's cardinals last year.Jeff Goldblum wrote: ↑02 Mar 2026 08:46 am Love all of the marmol defenders all of the sudden. The guy is still a deer in the headlights 3 years in.

Not giving my right arm just responding to the OP.RamFan08NY wrote: ↑02 Mar 2026 09:26 amYet, many here would give their right arm for Terry Francona, who won a whole 4 more games than Oli's cardinals last year.Jeff Goldblum wrote: ↑02 Mar 2026 08:46 am Love all of the marmol defenders all of the sudden. And what were the payrolls of both teams in 2025?

I dont think payroll has anything to do with it. Talent on the roster? Yes. Payroll doesn't win games, if it did, Mikolas would have been a stud last year.11WSChamps wrote: ↑02 Mar 2026 09:33 amNot giving my right arm just responding to the OP.RamFan08NY wrote: ↑02 Mar 2026 09:26 amYet, many here would give their right arm for Terry Francona, who won a whole 4 more games than Oli's cardinals last year.Jeff Goldblum wrote: ↑02 Mar 2026 08:46 am Love all of the marmol defenders all of the sudden. Cardinals 2025 salary 144m
Reds 119m.
Relatively similar.

take the Cardinals job.
The Reds are never going to be a top half payroll team.
