SLU @ Dayton

Post by skeezix »

Tonight's game will likely be the toughest win for the Billikens. Dayton is tough to beat at home, and they will be sky-high to return a beating. Their free-throw shooting is better, which might be the deciding factor. A loss will have a large impact on their seeding in the tournament. Coach Schertz and the team leaders need to keep the team laser-focused on the job at hand.

Don't have a good feeling about this one.

SLU needs to get off to a fast start, limit the fouls, and hit the free throws.

Whelp, goodbye to any chances for an at-large bid.

Once again, team starts out slow while the lesser opponent plays their best game of the season.

21% shooting from the floor. 0-11 on 3 pointers late in the 1st.

Team will be lucky to get an NIT bid at this point.

The bloom is off the rose.

The disturbing thing to me is again, we are just being outworked. They have never matched the intensity that Dayton brought tonight. They had to know that Dayton would look to get some revenge and have let Dayton just take it to them.

Not a good evening for the Bills.

40% shooting, 23% 3-pt shooting, 15 turnovers. Dayton attempted 12 more free throws.

SLU will definitely fall out of the rankings and most likely lose the last game of the season on the road at George Mason to finish 27-4.

Will need to win the A-10 tournament to make it the NCAAs. If they make it, they'll get bounced early.

yeahhh....jump to conclusions much? They have dominated all season and had one bad game. They will come back and beat GM. They will get an at large bid regardless and they will not be bounced early. Though the seeding may make a second round matchup tough as they likely are an 8 or 9 now.

Rough night for the Billikens.

There is a disturbing trend of falling behind early.

They need to win at George Mason and then get to the A-10 Championship game.

This late season funk is starting to make me think they are going to end up on the 8/9 line in one of the regions. I'd almost rather them be an 11 or 12 if they get in by not winning out. I'm also worried that if they don't at least get to the A10 Championship game they might get bypassed by the committee. The tourney needs the 17th seed from the ACC and the 13th seed from the SEC before they need a runner up in the A10 (that's about 70% snark and 30% not). They should be favored in the remaining regular season games and they are out of rope for losing. And they need to go deep in the conference tourney to hopefully lock up the at large if they lose.

The inability to come out of the gate quickly is concerning. I can think of several games lately, GW, VCU, last night, and probably others, where they are down double digits before everyone is in their seats. They need to figure that problem out quickly. It's been such a great season and don't want it ruined by late season bad play.

Falling behind isn't so bad.

Falling behind by A LOT early is the problem.

They will not always be able to pull themselves out.

And doing this versus better teams they will NOT come back.
