Bryan Ramos vs N. Raquet, M. Pushard, C. Roycroft 40 man spot
Genuinely asking, wouldn't Ramos offer so much more potential long term than those 3 relief pitchers?
Are they THAT special? Ramos is significantly younger by like 5-7 years and at a position of need as a RH bat at 1st or 3rd.
I know he is not very good now, but at that age???

A host on one of the several Cardinal channels on YouTube discussed this very issue recently. He said he thinks it's possible. I hope it's not Raquet, since he's a lefty reliever who tore up LH hitters in the minors last year.
Of course, Cards might still trade one or more 40-man-roster guys for one or more minor league non-40-man guys, thus alleviating a logjam.

I agree, it seems odd. I'd prefer to have Ramos (who has potential and some promise) over many of the relievers hanging around on the 40.Jobu's Rum wrote: ↑17 Feb 2026 14:58 pm Genuinely asking, wouldn't Ramos offer so much more potential long term than those 3 relief pitchers?

I don't think they'd drop Pushard this early in camp since he was our Rule-5 pick.
Raquet would be a tough drop since we don't have much LHRP depth right now and could potentially have less if Romero gets moved.
Roycroft...I dunno. I wouldn't miss him that much. Great story, but I just don't know what they see in him. He's not NOT a strike out pitcher, but not as much as you'd hope for for a middle reliever in a shut down bullpen. Had terrible numbers last year, and even his deep stats showed that he was pretty unlucky, but even if it all bounced his way, he'd still have put up pretty mediocre numbers.

Why not just move Roby or Hjerpe to the 60 day IL?

Oversight on my part, I don't know why I thought Raquet was a RHP, him being a LHP I can understand that, and Pushard being Rule 5, ok fair enough...and maybe they like that big corn fed haus in Roycroft and think he can bring some value

Can’t really comment in depth on Ramos.
I get Pushard and Raquet!
Personally I would give Roycroft a Fredbird or Janitors outfit but that is just me!
