John Denton no longer Cardinals.com beatwriter
Not sure if this was posted but it appears Denton got let go on 2/4/2026.
Too bad, I thought he did a good job.

Heard this on Locked On Cardinals/ YouTube and wondered why especially because of the timing. Like you, he seemed to be performing well. Maybe they think that the team is not worth following.rockondlouie wrote: ↑11 Feb 2026 13:29 pm Not sure if this was posted but it appears Denton got let go on 2/4/2026.

It appears to be an MLB.com restructuring, they also laid off the Pirates beat writer.LCA1951 wrote: ↑11 Feb 2026 13:51 pmHeard this on Locked On Cardinals/ YouTube and wondered why especially because of the timing. It looks like a tough time to be a Cardinals writer.

Re: John Denton no longer Cardinals.com beatwriter
Laying off staff like a week or two before players report to ST is curious (read: ridiculous) timing.
The cable broadcast rights issues shouldn’t impact the economics of their beat writers. Plus, MLB is picking up the broadcast subscribers now so that should improve things at the league office. So I’m not sure what’s known now that wasn’t at the end of the season.
