Left Field

Post by Charles King »

With Nootbaar injured. Who is the opening day left fielder. Herrera probably should be but he will catch. Will someone step up in the spring. Will they sign someone
Church has not shown he can hit
What you guys think

Bloom talked about Church today in his presser. You have to expect he'll get plenty of AB's... The utility slugger guy can bumble along in LF from time to time. Fermin played some LF. I don't expect Torres to make the 26man out of camp....too redundant having VS2, Church and Torres on the same team

edit...forgot about Saggese, he might get the chance in LF. I cringe, but we just need warm bodies. If he hits, then try him in LF.

thanks, Rock...saw your reply below

C. Bloom said today:

"Don't be surprised if you see both Fermin & Saggese getting some OF time this spring"

Lots of options:

1.) Church
2.) Torres (My hope!)
3.) Saggese
4.) Fermin
5.) An outside FA signing
6.) Velasquez
7.) Noot - he "heels" in time (sorry, bad pun!)
8.) Herrera - If they don't like him behind the plate
9.) Burleson - If Herrera flops as C and they like hkm at 1st better than Burley.

I think it will have to play out a little more during ST.

Fermin will be on the roster. He has no options left. Torres has 3. That may inform the discussion.

I get real tired of guys not get it getting a shot (when they've earned it) because someone else has no options. Just play the best guy!

Agree
If he can't earn a spot DFA them. No need keeping them around

A darkhorse possibility. Joshua Baez if he has a tremendous spring training.

Doubtful. Very little chance of that happening just yet.

I hope that you see the positive in your statement of
the redundancies over some past roster construction.

They're athletic.

Wait are you guys saying we have an outfield problem? Who knew? Why the focus on left? Right is a problem also. Our outfield will be made up with the misfit toys.

Because they've already chosen a direction in RF, but you know this.
