Most losses by a Cardinals team:

Post by vegascardsfan5890 »

The Cardinals lost 105 games in 1908

The "modern day" record is 93 losses in 1978

Do these records come crashing down this year?

As of right now I have them at 70-92

No

2026 Team > 2025 Team

If they stay healthy, then 80 - 84 wins.

They lost their best pitcher and arguably their two best hitter….and you see improvement? OK

I see 70-92 all day long. This team will not score and their pitching isn’t good enough to overcome that.

I see us having a similar year to last year. 78-80 wins.

We've lost some good players, but we've also trimmed some of the reasons why we were bad. Mikolas is gone. Fedde is gone, and Pallante will probably not get anywhere near the same innings. And if he does, we'll probably be in bad shape through reasons that don't run through Andre.

It'll be interesting to see how the numbers stack up at the end of the year.

Gray vs Liberatore
Contreras vs Burleson
Arenado vs Gorman/Saggese (or JJ if he plays 3B)

We've missed the playoffs the last 3 years and finished 19 games behind the Brewers last summer. It was time to clear things out and shake the roster up. I feel refreshed and excited to see things play out heading into spring.

I would take Gray over Libertore any day of the week.
Burleson was in the lineup last year….just not at 1B. So if you really want to compare, who is replacing Burleson’s offensive production from the outfield position he played last year.
NA was average last year…but Gorman was brutal.
JJ is probably replacing Donovan so that’s a wash. We have a .210 hitting Gorman hitting 30 HRs.
I don’t think anyone else on the roster will hit 25…maybe even 20. This team is going to REALLY struggle offensively.

70-92 is about right.

Libby showed flashes last year of being a pretty dynamic SP, we’ll see if he can take another step forward this year. Him and Gray’s stats weren’t that far off from one another last season.

I feel like there’s added value in having lineup continuity with guys knowing where they’re playing on a given day. Burly has a home at 1B and likely won’t need to venture out to LF too often. Gorman will have every opportunity to take the 3B job and can slide into more of a DH role if it doesn’t work out.

Really though, who knows? Maybe this team will be able to find ways to generate offense without relying on the HR. I could also see them surprise and have 4-5 guys in the 15-20 HR range: Herrera, Burleson, Winn, Wetherholt. Walker and Gorman are wildcards that could completely change the trajectory of what this team is capable of.

The last 3 seasons were incredibly stale, it was time for a shake up. I’m looking forward to watching this roster reset play out.

Players who had 4421 of 12189 plate appearances or batters faced in 2025 have now departed. More if we trade Romero or Nootbar.
That means 36.3% of the playing time from 2025 must be distributed to someone else in 2026.

753 Gray
715 Pallante
669 Mikolas
648 Liberatore
583 Nootbar
563 Contreras
546 Burleson
537 Winn
515 Donovan
463 Scott
452 Herrera *
446 Fedde
436 Arenado
402 Gorman *
400 McGreevy *
396 Walker *
389 Pages *
363 Leahy
295 Saggese *
255 Romero
234 Svanson
227 Matz
222 King
199 O'Brien *
193 Graceffo
168 Pozo
158 Maton
157 Helsley
140 Fernandez *
101 Roycroft *
91 Granillo *
70 Fermin *
67 Alcala
65 Church *
51 Munoz
46 Crooks *
41 Baker
31 Hampson
31 Barrero

May, Dobbins, Fitts, Stanek, Pushard, Bruihl, and Velazquez have been added.
Many players with * above will likely play a bit more.

My guess is that May, Stanek, Nootbar, and Romero will get traded during the season.

This... except losing the two best bats (Contreras and Donovan) means Noot/Gorman/Walker will really have to take some steps forward to keep them around the same record (plus Wetherholt holding his own, which I think is pretty likely).

I think low 70s is more realistic as their ceiling, even believing their pitching will be better.

Probably closer to the truth than a lie. Sadly.
