where do Cijntje, Peete, and Ledbetter rank in our Farm System?

Post by craviduce »

going by MLBpipeline....my prediction, FWIW

Cijntje is a 55 future value prospect, was 7th ranked in Seattle's Farm

Peete is a 45 future value prospect, was 11th ranked in Seattle's Farm

Ledbetter is a 45 future value prospect, was 24th ranked in Tampa's Farm

-----------

Also, just realized, Cijintje and Ledbetter were college teammates at Miss. St. in 2023. The more you know. ::crazya::

----------------

going by the FV.....and also NOTE ~ Mlbpipeline hasn't issued their Top 30 for each team for 2026 Preseason. So that is how I'll rank them. Mlbpipeline will slot them, shortly, into the end of season rankings from 2025....so my prediction will be off from that.

Here we go:

Cijntje ~ 5th....between Baez and Bernal
Peete ~ 10th-14th...I'll pinpoint to 12th
Ledbetter ~ 22nd-28th...I'll pinpoint 26th

the new rankings will drop current Cardinals and other will rise.....IE: Josh Baez sits at 13th on Cards Top 30, but he's currently the 4th highest Cardinal in the Top 100 overall.

----------------

What are your guesses? I can't wait to see BA's, BP's, Law's, ESPN's, Fangraphs take, too

Baseball America didn't have Ledbetter in the Rays top 30 in 2025 or now in preseason 2026. He peaked at #12 Rays prospect in pre season 2024. They also had him as the #47 rated prospect before the 2023 draft. Rays picked him at #55

He's fallen off the BA ratings since. Doubt he makes the Cardinals top 30. If it matters.

BA had Peete as Mariners #10 prospect but with high strikeout rate and contact issues. Has played th infield early in his career but the moved him to CF last year. TBD on where the Cardinals play him.

FWIW, Fangraphs has them:

2026 FV (Org Rank)
Cijntje: 50 (7)
Peete: 40+ (12)
Ledbetter: 35+ (49) (2026 grade not available)

yeah...seems like Ledbetter's FV dropped due to the 100 point drop in OPS. RunSup probably has the right of it, he won't show up in our Top 30 once the 2026 list comes out.

great point, RunSup...I was overvaluing him, I guess. I just thought guys like Chase Davis, Mason Molina, etc would drop more. I'm leaning towards agreeing with you on this.

A better year in 2026 will rise that value, let's hope that happens.

I still don’t get why the “ other “ Baez is ranked so high? Is it simply because he’s played at Shortstop? He doesn’t appear to be a Cardinals’ top 30 prospect to me.

MLB's current list (before shuffling for 2026)

1 JJ Wetherholt
2 Liam Doyle
3 Rainiel Rodriguez
4 Jurrangelo Cijntje
5 Leonardo Bernal
6 Quinn Mathews
7 Jimmy Crooks
8 Brandon Clarke
9 Tekoah Roby
10 Yhoiker Fajardo
11 Jesus Baez
12 Yairo Padilla
13 Ryan Mitchell
14 Joshua Baez
15 Tai Peete

Don't really understand why Jurrangelo Cijntje, Yhoiker Fajardo, and Jesus Baez are so high.

Me either! Where are Mautz, Henderson, and Davis ( the pitcher) they are better than half that list!

Agree on Baez...

The other two, I'm not sure what's not to love.

Fajardo has exceptional command for his age and just threw 72 innings in his age-18 season without giving up a single HR (after having given up just 2 in 50 IP in the DSL). There is a ton to like with him... as so much work can start earlier on pitch design / shape due to the plus command.

Cijntje is an insane athlete. Milwaukee drafted him as a shortstop out of high school but he elected to go to college and pitch. He's darn near picture perfect from a mechanics perspective as a RHP with plus velocity. I think you'll like what you see once you see it.

Someone was a little wound up about the HR given up in A-Ball... worth mentioning - the dimensions at Funko Field are weird with a super shallow right center field (like 315 feet or something and the alley is about 350). He had a 21% HR/FB rate there as opposed to 4% when he moved to AA. Super noisy.

Agree he is overrated, but he certainly is a top 30. I have him outside the top 10

To me, Cijntje is just a novelty switch pitcher, nothing special with either arm. Peete and Ledbetter are lefty OF bats who haven't even proved they can hit yet. They're basically Chase Davis and Matt Koperniak.

thanks for posting the update, Cardstatman. It didn't take Mlbpipeline very long to insert the acquisitions. We'll see how they rank in a few weeks with the new Preseason Ranks.

Quinn Mathews working his way down the list.
