And looking to trade for a 2B. Donovan’s salary for next season is $5.8m. Would we really make another trade with the Red Sox?

Which is probably why they haven’t traded for Donovan yet. They want to move salary in return, and of course the Cardinals don’t want any of that. I forget who it was that said it, but in order for a deal to get done with the Bosox, a third team will probably have to be involved and take on either Duran or Yoshida. Odds are, nothing happens.

Why couldn't the Red Sox send some money along with a player or two to save them some money in the long run? Like the Cardinals did with Gray and Arenado.Hoosier59 wrote: ↑01 Feb 2026 19:24 pmWhich is probably why they haven’t traded for Donovan yet. I suppose they could, but the Cardinals want no part of Yoshida. If I’m the Red Sox, I’m not paying down Durran’s contract. He isn’t that expensive for what he produces, and he should be easily tradable. The Cardinals aren’t evidently interested in acquiring him either.Shady wrote: ↑01 Feb 2026 20:27 pmWhy couldn't the Red Sox send some money along with a player or two to save them some money in the long run? With the Red Sox’s trade of Hicks, does this give them the budget room they require in order to add another player or two? ( Donovan, Romero)Hoosier59 wrote: ↑01 Feb 2026 20:38 pmI suppose they could, but the Cardinals want no part of Yoshida. If I’m the Red Sox, I’m not paying down Durban’s contract. What's the story with Yoshida? How does a 5-8" player get that big of a contract at 30?Hoosier59 wrote: ↑01 Feb 2026 20:38 pmI suppose they could, but the Cardinals want no part of Yoshida. The signing was widely criticized at the time. He was coming off a good WBC, but it wasn't smart.Carp4Cy wrote: ↑02 Feb 2026 11:15 amWhat's the story with Yoshida?
