Eugenio Suarez is returning to Cincinnati, as ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports that the slugger has signed a one-year, $15MM deal with the Reds that includes a mutual option for the 2027 season. Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports that the option is worth $16MM, though mutual options are rarely triggered by both sides. The deal will become official once the Reds clear a spot on their 40-man roster, and presumably when Suarez passes a physical.
he's sure to hit more than a few HRs in Great American Smallpark

Of course he will, and strike out almost 200 times.82birds wrote: ↑01 Feb 2026 16:52 pm By Mark Polishuk | February 1, 2026 at 4:22pm CDT

Re: Suarez
And back months ago when I said that he would be aperfect 3B for the Cards, I was told that we couldnt afford him.
Lol.
To review:
Donovan LF
Wetherholt 2B
Herrera C
Suarez 3B
Contreras 1B
Burleson DH
Walker RF
Winn SS
Scott II CF
Valdez
Gray
Pitcher acquired via trade
Liberatore
McGreevy
This was a suggestion I posted many times. This is a playoff team.

No, it really isn't. You have 4 pitchers. Worthless and Argo starting and Ivan catching. no bullpenCardinals4Life wrote: ↑01 Feb 2026 17:05 pmAnd back months ago when I said that he would be aperfect 3B for the Cards, I was told that we couldnt afford him.

Re: Suarez
But would he want to play for the cardinals? He played for the reds before and liked it they made the post season last season it’s a very hitter friendly park as opposed toCardinals4Life wrote: ↑01 Feb 2026 17:05 pmAnd back months ago when I said that he would be aperfect 3B for the Cards, I was told that we couldnt afford him.

The cardinals stadium which is very hitter friendly. He probably sees it as going to a team that made the post season and he can put up big numbers and make the post season or get traded to a contender at the deadline

Re: Suarez
I just read where the Reds figure to play Suarez at 1st base and DH. They have Hayes at 3rd base, one of the best defenders in the game there. Hayes just hasn’t hit as well as people thought. Should really improve their offense. They have the pitching, so the Reds look to challenge for the Division. Pittsburgh has also improved, and probably aren’t finished yet adding players.
The Cardinals’ starting pitching will dictate where the Cardinals finish in the standings, but right now it’s looking like it will be the basement in the Central!

Re: Suarez
We already have a third baseman who can hit 25 home runs while striking out a million times, and be terrible defensively. He's hardly making anything. Why would you pay 15 million for the same thing?

Re: Suarez
I don’t believe Suarez would have been a great fit for the Cardinals either, but he is going to play 1st base, not 3rd, and he hit over 40 home runs, not 25.bccardsfan wrote: ↑01 Feb 2026 19:14 pm We already have a third baseman who can hit 25 home runs while striking out a million times, and be terrible defensively. I bet he wouldn't hit more than 25 to 30 in St Louis. Anyway not an issue. One thing that baffles me, Busch III is a hard stadium to hit homers in, but the Cardinals haven’t even tried to build a team built for such a ballpark! They don’t have any true sluggers outside of Gorman, they were last in the league in triples, they don’t try to steal many bases, they just do not have a lot of team speed, and in the past they’ve concentrated on ground ball pitchers. Now, with the interest in the team at a low, bringing in the fences some, would help at least generate some. I can’t believe they didn’t try and help Goldie and Arenado a few seasons ago! That was one of Nolan’s biggest complaints. I just don’t understand their way of thinking!

Re: Suarez
Because Suarez can ACTUALLY hit 40 HRs and Gorman can "supposedly" hit 25+ HRS every year. Big difference.bccardsfan wrote: ↑01 Feb 2026 19:14 pm We already have a third baseman who can hit 25 home runs while striking out a million times, and be terrible defensively.
