This off season has been awful

Post by Web7 »

You self appointed geniuses keep saying how this is going great ….What is great about it? We literally gave away three of our best players and gave $50 million for them to play somewhere else… The prospects we got back are definitely not the things you build around… They are stop gaps for a few seasons…… We have literally not added one position player to one of the league’s worst offenses… But we did trade two of our three best right handed bats…… I honestly cannot be more disappointed in what bloom has done so far……… but I’m sure I will hear how this is a rebuild and I don’t know how a rebuild works… Even though our own owner said this isn’t a rebuild

Chaim has done a good job with what he has to work with. What we are missing is a high floor/high upside kind of prospect coming back in a deal. I think that's why they were really pushing to get a Ryan Sloan/Kade Anderson type piece for Donovan. Fitts/Dobbins are nice pieces but moderate upside at best. Brandon Clarke is as high risk as it gets, as he's the only real notable prospect we have attained this offseason.

I also think that's why they have been hesitant to trade him for a package centered around Lazaro Montes. Montes/Clarke as your returns for the offseason is far too high risk overall IMO.

You won't hear it from me. You are not willing or able to be educated on the topic, so I'll save my words. It's a salary dump. We're tanking. It's a slap in the face to the fans. A travesty! It's hopeless!

What would have pleased you or been a successful offseason?

These are the realities of a rebuild. I don't understand how some fans still need to hear this on a weekly basis. Our farm system was bare, our coaching and scouting staffs were falling behind, our major league talent was aging and required kicking in money to move. It sucks but we have to suffer a but before it gets better.

Being a Dodgers or maybe a Red Sox fan.

Might start following them again as I actually like Gray and Willson.

A lot of people here don’t understand the difference between prospects that can become good starting lineup players on an MLB roster and meh prospects that are not part of the long-term MLB roster plans. The Cardinals received a pile of meh prospects in the off-season Dewitt-pleasing salary dumps, and apparently no team wants to trade a blue chip prospect for Donovan. This off-season has been a disaster unless you’re worried about Dewitt’s cash flow.

If the plan is to rebuild through the draft without spending on top free agents, then we’re looking at waiting for Dewitt to croak and his son to sell the team before the team will be real contenders again. Building a team through only the draft can get you into the playoffs, but you immediately get destroyed by one of the teams with an owner that spends, but the billionaire bootlickers here think the Cardinals will somehow be the exception.

Some teams, some sports, some leagues (ncaa) rebuild a heck of a lot faster and it starts with new HC.

I don’t have any problem with trading any of the three that they traded… The problem I have is the return… When you’re paying $50 million you should be getting major league ready talent…… Guys that are within a year or so of the majors…. I personally can’t believe we didn’t get the first baseman from Boston…… He’s the kind of guy that you take a shot at… Kinda like when Rizzo was traded to the Cubs…… This reeks much more of dumping salary than it does rebuilding.

The OP and several like him prefer to wallow in their willful ignorance (about how re-builds work) and living in fantasy land (about what they wanted\expected to happen).

But they sure love their daily postings proving both.

Pretty sure that's what Fitts and Dobbins are. That's 2 MLB arms who will likely be in our OD rotation.
