Oh man…..I loved him when I was a kid. He could skate like the wind and he had a great slap shot.

One of my favorite as well. He could fly and was a great all-around player. And to think that Montreal was so stacked, that they could let him go. He was a big-sized player for those times...unassuming, but effective. The Blues had some real good talent during those times, just not enough. Very strong at Centre with Unger, Leffley, Wayne Merrick, Derek Sanderson and Red Berenson as teammates.
Sad to hear, but thank you for posting.

Very sad, RIP. I missed seeing him play in his prime years as I was away in the service.

Great Blue. We got him out of the loaded Montreal system. Scored 43 goals for us one year.

He and Sanderson killed penalties together and he actually has 8 SHG the same year he scored 43.
That might be a Blues record unless Larry Patey may have had 8 also one year.
Not sure what the league record is but that has to be right up there with the best.

Lefley, Sanderson and LaRose - The Sunshine Boys.

Back when lines stayed together and Gus Kyle was throwing out nicknames like penny candies...

Thanks, Pierre, for posting & as well to the others for your comments. One of my favorite Blues as well. As a kid so enjoyed watching him play & man, he could flat out skate! Had forgotten about the large number of short handed goals he scored.

What memories! Dan Kelly, Gus Kyle, KPLR-tv, & the Falstaff commercials on my portable black & white tv. And popcorn from our Joe Namath butter up popcorn popper! Lots of fun! :D

Wow he went 6th overall in the draft.

He played well here then did he peter out or did he get injured?

RIP Chuck.

I know its been said many times, but Dan Kelly could make the game absolutely come alive, even on the radio. Especially for the exciting, colorful players like Chuck Lefley. Seeing Lefley in person was quite a sight, with the long 70's hair flying as he broke at high speed into the clear.

Rest in peace, Mr. Lefley.

Just a different mindset and era..he won the cup a couple of times and had his best years in St. Louis. Article mentions that he suffered from burnout and was more fulfilled farming and being with his family.

Only 2 years after Lefley's huge 43 goal season, he stated that he lost passion to play and retired from hockey. Then Lefley played overseas for a while before returning to the Blues briefly. Then he retired for good. I never heard about any injury. Lefley was absolutely electric on the ice when he had the passion to play. I was lucky to be a season ticket holder for that great 43 goal season. RIP!
