They need leadership and skill. And more importantly they need skill from there leadership. Its always nice to see the boys come together and show that it can be done. But there are too many verterans on this team to be figuring it out in late January. These points will do more harm than good in the long run.Moberly Blues wrote: ↑30 Jan 2026 06:59 am Beating last two years Stanley Cup Champs home and away shows this team can play hockey, just needs motivation and consistancy.

Does it though? Seems more like the Panthers are limping through the season as well.Moberly Blues wrote: ↑30 Jan 2026 06:59 am Beating last two years Stanley Cup Champs home and away shows this team can play hockey, just needs motivation and consistancy.

I am begining to wonder if we even need Thomas. We have beaten Carolina, TBL, and Flordia in the few weeks he has been down. Had it not been for horrible special teams we could easily have had a few more wins, Also it looks like he has only played a full season once. Sure he is good but if you can get a haul for him why not!

I know the team has been injured all year as well, plus Bob was not in net so that plays a role as well.aslord wrote: ↑30 Jan 2026 07:06 amDoes it though? Re: It's in there......
yup, the 5 losses in a row before the low level display by both teams last night are in there too
but other than that sure, they're the right stuff. clearly still got "it"

They are all professional athletes so of course any professional team can rise up occasionally.
But, after awhile, and 50+ game is more than awhile, you are what you are.
Individually they are all NHL players. Collectively they are not a good team.
Doesn't mean it's all gloom and doom. Not at all. Nice strides from some youngsters this year is encouraging and some real intriguing prospects are getting close.
Usually I am all for going for the playoffs when it is a reasonable goal. It is not this year. Therefore, you move to the planning stages for the future. A top pick difference make would sure look good with some of the pieces they already have and if they are smart enough to trade 50, 72 and 10 and then spend that money wisely in free agency this can look like a completely different team next year.

They need leadership that extracts the skill they have, harnesses the burgeoning skill they're developing, and pushes them to compete every game.Younghopp1991 wrote: ↑30 Jan 2026 07:06 amThey need leadership and skill. Notice I said compete, not "work hard." The world we live in today, in almost every facet, is driven by analytics and in-depth analysis to maximize utilization. The blue-collar days of skating as hard as you can and hitting everything you can don't work anymore. You have to play smart, not just hard.
In other words, you have to outcompete your opponent, and that's just something this team isn't doing consistently enough, because they have a dummy blue-collar Captain who isn't showing them how it's done.
Last night, though, they showed they possess the talent and speed to compete with the rest of the league. If they could just find someone to end this Jekyll and Hyde madness, I personally think they could be what they showed for 2 months last season.
Re: It's in there......
You make legit points until the first boldface. That "dummy" will play 1,000-plus games and score 300-plus goals. And that doggone Cup ring.blackinkbiz wrote: ↑30 Jan 2026 16:46 pmThey need leadership that extracts the skill they have, harnesses the burgeoning skill they're developing, and pushes them to compete every game.Younghopp1991 wrote: ↑30 Jan 2026 07:06 amThey need leadership and skill. As to bold and italics: Who was the "dummy" captain during that time?

I give Schenn a hard time because I just don't see him getting on his team to extract the skill they clearly possess. And that's not to say you have to get on guys to be a good captain. But clearly, whatever he's been doing the past few seasons just isn't getting the job done. Even with all the injuries, there's no way this team should be at the bottom of the league.blues2112 wrote: ↑30 Jan 2026 17:00 pmYou make legit points until the first boldface. Re: It's in there......
This team needs more leadership, more skill and more grit. I know they try sometimes but this team is seriously lacking a couple of Alpha dogs. Schenn shouldn't be the team tough guy. Parayko shouldnt be the toughest defenseman. Kyrou can't be the only true goal scorer on the team. Walker and Tucker can't be the physical presence of the team.

I agree. I would also add that I am seeing some overall team improvement being initiated by our kids playing like it means something to them. Definately have to have much more at this point, but these kids are pushing it, and I don't believe the oldsters want to look bad playing along side of them. JMO

I'm not even talking about behind-the-scenes. I'm talking about on the ice, in the huddles of timeouts, I've never seen Schenn doing "Captain things" like yelling to or at his teammates, even if they're flat out s*(bleep). Never seen him yelling encouragement, etc etc. Of course, his teammates love him apparently, but none of that really matters because as you said, we have no clue what's actually going on.moose-and-squirrel wrote: ↑31 Jan 2026 13:36 pmand I find it funny because not one person here knows what goes on or is said in the locker room or behind the scenesblackinkbiz wrote: ↑30 Jan 2026 23:04 pmI give Schenn a hard time because I just don't see him getting on his team to extract the skill they clearly possess. But the numbers speak for themself since he became Captain. Outside of a 2-month stretch, they've been bad. And this year, every player is below career norms. That's what matters.

He doesn't have much backup.
