So lots of expectations from unproven prospects who at the time, many expected to be great. And some still hang onto hope. But real world track record shows a pretty low hit rate on random prospects that other teams are willing to let go of. Most often they just can't reproduce their MiLB success in the majors. Or they are constantly hurt.

How many if the former Cardinals who were traded away to get these new "superstars"...er...umm..."new additions" would have been on the Cardinals team in two years?

If even only one of the new additions is on the team and contributing in two years, that's more than what Gray, Arenado or Contreras would have been contributing.

That's not the question. A beter question would be should we have traded rentals for more proven MLB players and paid some $ salaries to keep the talent on the roster? Kind of like we did we Edman for Fedde, and in restrospect should have done with Fedde for another veteran sooner.

Spending all year salivating over the trade deadline veteran dumps and the "prospects" we are getting back turns out to be a lot of wasted print when it come to on the field production. That's not how you move the needle.

Or you turn the prospect search on its head and find a list of 5 that will become the next franchise players and go ask the GMs what it will take to get them (and no one else will be discussed). Like we did with acquiring Wainwright, when WJ insisted he was included in that trade.
