Re: MLBpipeline TOP 100 Prospects
Josh Baez ranks
MlbPipeline ~ 87th
Baseball America ~ 54th
Doyle and Rodriguez's ranks are very similar....Doyle ~ 34th and 33rd. Rodriguez ~ 37th and 35th. JJ ~ 5th and 3rd. Bernal ~ 98th and Not Ranked with BA
pretty big variance there with Baez. I'm not an expert....but I'd put him closer to Mayo/Callis ranking at 87th, than Cooper's ranking at 54th.
--------------
I hope the youngsters in AA and high A pitch well enough to make a run at the Top 100 lists in the midseason....here's looking at you Franklin, Fajardo, and Clarke....and Yairo Padilla and Deniel Ortiz take their hitting to the next level.
Could be an exciting Spring/Summer.

All homegrown, right? None from the "rebuild" which also happened to reduce payroll.

So when can we expect all 5 of those to carry the new Cardinals to the World Series trophy? Anybody?

Thanks, Duce. I would expect that a Donovan trade, should it come about, will yield at least one more top 100 prospect. How would you rate the players coming over from Boston so far?

hopefully at least 1....the longer they wait...say into Midseason or next winter, the less he'll yield.Detroit Louie wrote: ↑24 Jan 2026 13:44 pm Thanks, Duce. Exactly. Some people like watching young players progress throughout their pro careers. I don’t understand why some people get so angry about that. Don’t like it, shut up and stay out of the conversation.

Yes, Bloom seems to be playing poker with Seattle and maybe the Giants, staring them down. But as you intimate, will he lose the deal altogether? Still, its refreshing to see him doing this rather than Mo.craviduce wrote: ↑24 Jan 2026 13:48 pmhopefully at least 1....the longer they wait...say into Midseason or next winter, the less he'll yield.Detroit Louie wrote: ↑24 Jan 2026 13:44 pm Thanks, Duce. Re: MLBpipeline TOP 100 Prospects
My understanding is grades are impacted by the perceived risk of the prospect so a prospect raking in AAA would be less risky than a 17 yr old in the Dominican League. I say that as I wonder if one's perceived risk for Baez is the difference. One could view last year as a sustainable breakout so he is de-risked or one could view it as a potential outlier in his career where he needs to repeat it before de-risking. Thus, one would rate higher than the other.craviduce wrote: ↑23 Jan 2026 19:56 pm Josh Baez ranks

Personally, I'm skeptical until he can prove one year wasn't a fluke but that's just my nature. Remember all the talk about Matthews after 2024 and then he stumbled last year, albeit related to injuries. I hope Baez has a really good follow up season in 2026.

Re: MLBpipeline TOP 100 Prospects
Exactly. I'd be surprised if they don't add 1 or 2 more candidates via trade between now and the mid-summer rankings. I'm thinking about trying to go to my first minor league game this summer. There are many players that would be interesting to watch, but if I could choose just one, I would like to see Yairo Padilla play in person.craviduce wrote: ↑23 Jan 2026 19:56 pm Josh Baez ranks
