Another Trade Thread - Kotkaniemi/Wright/etc.
This topic probably could've fit in some others, but is sort of its own.
We've seen Kotkaniemi and Wright available.
I think there are several more of similar ilk - young, under-performing, on the block with their teams looking for top-9 proven vets.
Just speaking of these two, would you swap Buch and Kyrou for them? Not knowing that much about either, I think I would.
A few I've seen mentioned: Brad Lambert, Pavel Mintuyukov, Isaac Howard, Ville Heinola
Are there any others like them that are possibly available that you would like to go after?

I’d take him for bottom 6 center role. He’s got a lot of grit to his game. He might not score but he can add value to any team if they use him right.SameOldBlues wrote: ↑23 Jan 2026 07:10 am Wright, a very suspicious maybe, but Kotkaniemi…hell no, he sucks bad.

Yes I would trade Kyrou for Wright and Blake Fiddler and whatever (bleep) contract Seattle wants send back.zamadoo wrote: ↑23 Jan 2026 06:48 am This topic probably could've fit in some others, but is sort of its own.

Blues aren’t getting anything for Buch at this point.

Agree on Buch. His value is zero or negative at this point. Such a horrible extension. I would swap him for Kotkaniemi and an expiring contract to even up the money just to get that contract off the books.noted wrote: ↑23 Jan 2026 08:41 amYes I would trade Kyrou for Wright and Blake Fiddler and whatever (bleep) contract Seattle wants send back.zamadoo wrote: ↑23 Jan 2026 06:48 am This topic probably could've fit in some others, but is sort of its own.

I'd be willing to bet that Buchy's season next year resembles Faulks season this year. I could see some glimmers in Faulks play last year that people were totally overlooking. Buchy the last few games and really since the Colorado game which is 9 games, has been getting some pretty creative redirects and firing some hard pucks on net. He has been stoned point blank like 3 or 4 times in the last handful of games. Not bad shots, just not elevating some of them. I bet he has a bounce back year next year. Is it a 70 pointer? I don't know if I'm willing to go that far, but I could see 60.TruBlueFan_1970 wrote: ↑23 Jan 2026 09:00 amAgree on Buch. His value is zero or negative at this point. Such a horrible extension. It's hard to think that the best 2 way forward for the Blues since we acquired him and Thomas, the other Best 2 way player are both having down years at the same time. Usually you have the dead kitten bounce. now how long will that last for buchy, 1 season? 2 season? If it doesnt stretch atleast 3-4 seasons than yes that contract is trash. But I have a feeling you will get some better play. He's worthless on the trade block in terms of value that he can provide here over what you are going to get back for him. You have to have guys who want to be here. At least we know that about him.
Re: Another Trade Thread - Kotkaniemi/Wright/etc.
I kind of agree with both of you. Kotkaniemi seems like a two-way guy with some grind to his game, and is only signed for $4.8M a year (we have like $50M in cap space opening up). Still young enough to reach a higher ceiling in the right environment, and perhaps worth the risk.Pierre McGuire wrote: ↑23 Jan 2026 07:13 amI’d take him for bottom 6 center role. Wright I'm just learning more about and am intrigued by his attitude.
I mostly want to dump players, and wouldn't mind getting a guy with a huge chip on his shoulder back in a deal for expiring veterans.
Would Bill want Kyrou?
I agree with others posting after as well. Buch doesn't have value now, but most teams probably know he should bounce back (as was mentioned). I accept he may be a long-term Blue and hope he does play well next season, but am certainly open to moving him in a deal for a guy like Kotkaniemi.

As bad as he is getting torn up on here, Thomas is still scoring at close to .80 ppg pace, as opposed to .50 for Buch. Thomas has less points due to missing so much time as he’s only played in 42 games. Buch is pacing for 41 points, which is gross. And he’s -16 on the season, which is gross, yet he still gets the “good 2-way forward” tag. He’s just been bad. He must get better, but I don’t see him getting more than 50 points a season. We can agree to disagree, but I would dump him if we have the chance.callitwhatyouwant wrote: ↑23 Jan 2026 09:18 amI'd be willing to bet that Buchy's season next year resembles Faulks season this year. O I don't think Buchy really turns the corner this year. Some hockey pros and coaches have talked about this current blues teams. It happens to players all the time. They come into camp and for whatever reason, the prep wasn't right, and when the real bullets start flying they never find their game. It takes getting away from the season to actually get it back.TruBlueFan_1970 wrote: ↑23 Jan 2026 11:29 amAs bad as he is getting torn up on here, Thomas is still scoring at close to .80 ppg pace, as opposed to .50 for Buch. Lucky for some of these Blues players. The all star break is lengthy. I think you will see a different level for a lot of these guys struggling when they come back. It will just be interesting to see if they will be wearing the note. As a buchy fan, I wouldn't mind if he was traded either. I just don't see how any team looks at the contract and is interested. You don't mid season trade for an underperforming guy and hope the change of scenery helps. That's a ton of risk exposure.

When we first moved here two summers ago I watched a lot of Kraken preseason and Wright looked like he was going to break out, which he absolutely did not do. Now we are a season and a half later so I can see why they're impatient especially with new guys hitting the roster
