Texas will have a $45-50M Roster in 2026

In 2025, Texas spent between $35-40M on it all-star roster that did not even get them into the CFP. They were 4th in roster spending in 2025 but have decided to go big or go home in 2026. Per ESPN, Texas is currently sitting between $45-50M with their current recruits (see below). The number will not be finalized until April 1st which is technically the final day to sign.

What is crazy to me is in 2024, the Texas Athletic Department had $332M in revenue and $325 in expense meaning they had around $7M to spend. While the jump to the SEC and losing the Long Horn Network revenue will give them another $13M ($39.5M to $52.5M), that is still only $20M. Does this mean that they are getting $30M more dollars in donations in 2026 than the received in 2024. If Texas is operating in the red not sure how other teams will compete or how sustainable this model is for the long haul of college sports.

They were mentioning it on ESPN and showed that they will be going up by $10M verse 2025 (by comparing players they lost verse added) so I found the link attacked showing what their 2025 spending was at and added $10M.

There are two different pots of money. Revenue sharing is direct payment from a school's athletic revenue to athletes (like a share of ticket/media money), while NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) is money earned from third-party brands for endorsements, appearances, and sponsorships, separate from the school. The key difference is the source: revenue sharing comes from the university's own generated funds (post-settlement), whereas NIL comes from external companies. Athletes can now benefit from both, combining direct school payments with personal brand deals. The really big money comes from NIL.

But But Eli and the sainted Danny White TN AD says they can't spend more than$20MM on the roster. Of course Texas Tech, Tx and A & M LOL at that with their Oil billionaires handing out insane NIL deals. Plus All the other Big Brands like OSU, OR PSU USC GA OU Bama etc.

It's right back to the Bad ole days when a few insane Billionaires control the top of CFB. It's why IU coming in with half the spending of all the big brands and putting a true Blue Collar Team out on the field and with discipline and the best HC in CFB and his staff beat up all the big brands and won the NC!

Bama is already plotting that after another mediocre year, by over privileged entitled fans they will dump Deboer and go after what they consider one of their own Saban disciples. Funny thing is? he is already in top of the HCing contract dollar wise and gotrdone at a third rate FB school who were the ones to give him his Power 5 opportunity and has not expressed any preference for the Tide. Which deliciously drives the Faithful more insane than usual.
