Does CFB really have anything to do with college per se anymore? I haven't heard mention of academic eligibility for some time. And many programs now offer their 'student athletes' online course work in PE (excercise) and Nutrition (eating) I think the college aspect of it is about done in many places.dugoutrex wrote: ↑05 Jan 2026 11:35 amand ... college sports have never been better!JackBolly wrote: ↑05 Jan 2026 09:59 am ...Bluebloods love NIL and Portal - Legalized everything they've done under the table for decades...Pancake Club just got bigger

Explain the rise of Indiana, Oregon and Texas Tech, and the resurrection of Miami. Alabama and Ohio State are nowhere to be found along with USC, Oklahoma and Texas. The Blue Bloods may not like it nearly as much as when they monopolized the talent. Can't do that anymore. Kids will not wait two or three years to play.JackBolly wrote: ↑05 Jan 2026 09:59 am ...Bluebloods love NIL and Portal - Legalized everything they've done under the table for decades...Pancake Club just got bigger

Miami and Indiana got the QB right which doesn't hurt and TT doesn't play in that tough of a conference.icon wrote: ↑05 Jan 2026 14:03 pmExplain the rise of Indiana, Oregon and Texas Tech, and the resurrection of Miami. That pretty much showed in their loss to Oregon.
OU, Alabama and Ohio State all made the playoffs.
Not everybody can advance. Someone has to lose.

All 3 of them lost. And that's a shocker. OSU losing to Miami? Bama not just beaten, but decimated, by Indiana? Unheard of. And Miami is winning mainly with a great D. Beck has been meh.11WSChamps wrote: ↑05 Jan 2026 14:31 pmMiami and Indiana got the QB right which doesn't hurt and TT doesn't play in that tough of a conference.icon wrote: ↑05 Jan 2026 14:03 pmExplain the rise of Indiana, Oregon and Texas Tech, and the resurrection of Miami. I get it. The wealth is being spread around a little bit.icon wrote: ↑05 Jan 2026 16:12 pmAll 3 of them lost. And that's a shocker. OSU losing to Miami? But let's don't pretend Miami isnt always a player sort to speak and winning back to back titles seldom happens as was the case with Ohio State and OU was a flawed team offensively that still pulled down an 8 seed.
As for Beck he is playing within a system of complementary football where he's only asked to make maybe 5 crucial throws a game and his skill set with being efficient does that very well.
Chanes are we go to 16 teams and then it may be almost impossible to tell how much impact it has on mid tier teams at least formerly like Indiana until we sustainability and not just a run of a few years.
Re: OT: The rich get richer even when they don't have to...
A bit sad, but was it ever fully an academic deal. If someone is athletically talented, let them benefit from it and go to college later if they are smart. If they aren’t, no game playing as in the past. I do see a business separation from athletics and the school.JackBolly wrote: ↑05 Jan 2026 12:29 pm Does CFB really have anything to do with college per se anymore? My first thought is there needs to be a near-communist oversight organization- every team has the same budget, every player paid the same. How else does it stop the rich-get-richer issue?
Re: OT: The rich get richer even when they don't have to...
I think you are both right. This is a little of a transition year while people learn how to win under the new rules. When the dust settles, it will simply come down to money and who can buy the best teams. Teams with massive alumni programs (like Ohio St and Texas) and teams with wealthy fan bases (USC and Oergon) will start to just buy championships as there is nothing preventing them. Teams with historical relevance that used to recruit on name will start to get left behind. It will be interesting to see if Oklahoma, Michigan, Alabama, etc… can find the tens to hundreds of millions of dollars needed to buy championship teams as they ised to recruit based in name. Recruiting to go to a particular school will start to be far less relevant than $$$$$. There was an article in SI showing to field an elite team you would need to shell out around $80M and since we are in the infancy, that number will quickly balloon up. I just read that the Arozona State QB in the portal basically said the floor for his services is set at $5M.icon wrote: ↑05 Jan 2026 14:03 pmExplain the rise of Indiana, Oregon and Texas Tech, and the resurrection of Miami. See link below as schools like USC, Notre Dame, Texas, Miami and Stanford have very wealthy fan bases. At some point teams like Harvard and Yale could become relevant again!
